Hi everyone, I've been a lurker for a while now but felt I needed to join and show my love for Blind Melon I just found out about their cancelled tour dates for the first 2 weeks of the tour and I had a quick question for anyone who planned to attend the Detroit show at the Majestic Theatre on November 6th. I had boughten tickets to go (so excited!) but got an email from Ticketmaster that the show was cancelled and I'd be refunded. The Majestic website also says it is cancelled; however on their MySpace Blind Melon says that they will be resuming their tour in Detroit on that night. So, did anyone else get this cancellation email and does anyone know if the show really is cancelled? I'm extremely sad about this, but it's more important that Travis gets better! Hopefully they'll reschedule! Yes...this show has been cancelled as well because the promoter has issues with it. All of the shows are being rescheduled if possible as we speak, so we'll have information on that very soon. Looks to be early spring to make them up, as well as add more. This whole thing sucks for ya'll that were planning to attend, and it DEFINITELY sucks for us on a number of levels.

Hello Melonheads,
We regret to inform you that we will have to cancel the first 2 weeks of our tour that is due to start in San Francisco tomorrow, October 21st. After the last run through Canada, Travis was having problems with his voice which were not clearing up. Normally with a few days rest he has been able to recover, but the problems persisted and he went to see a voice specialist. The doctor ordered him to rest his voice for 2 weeks or he would risk permanent damage. Unfortunately this wipes out a portion of this tour, which we were all very excited to do. We will resume the tour on November 6th at the Majestic Theatre in Detroit. We apologize for the many inconveniences this will likely cause, and we will either reschedule shows or refund all the tickets. Information regarding this will be posted here soon. Here is a list of the shows which will be cancelled:
Oct 21....The Independent.....San Francisco, CA
Oct 23...Majestic Theatre.......Ventura, CA
Oct 24... House of Blues.........Anaheim, CA
Oct 26...Canes Bar & Grill.......San Diego, CA
Oct 27.....The Rock........Tuscon, AZ
Oct 29......Meridian...... Houston, TX
Oct 30......The Village.......Little Rock, AR
Oct 31......George's Majestic Lounge...... Fayetteville, AR
Nov 2........Streeters......Traverse City, MI
Nov 3........The Vogue......Indianapolis, IN
Nov 4.........The Machine Shop.......Flint, MI

Friday night there was squelching in the left channel somewhere. It sounded like a high pitched whistle coming from Christopher. It left my ears ringing as well. Rogers had some feedback issues and the bass did kick out a couple of times. It's not nearly as bad as it was in Atlanta. The sound there was so blown out that both recordings of the show were totally clipped. I know he's a bit of a burn out but boy do I miss Mike Maher. howdy ya'll, We had a great time at the vigil even though there was a day-long wrestling match with the sound system there...the club did their best...The problem was that they brought in a bunch of mismatched gear and rigged it up the night before the show, so it had not yet been de-bugged. The vibe was cool there though, so we were grateful to the crowd for helping us pull through with it. Our soundman didn't connect with us until we we got to Canada...

New sound guy?!?! Last I'd heard Patrick was new to doing the sound, and I know he was doing an amazing job..... Thinking the majority of the problem had to do with the speakers being on the floor. I was in all areas of the floor during the night. Middle front = good, side front = ears bleeding, middle center = good, anywhere in back = couldn't hear a damn thing. I don't care what it sounded like though, the energy in the room was unspeakable - never experienced anything like it. had goosebumps the whole time. get 'em again just thinking of it. Here's a useful tip.... In most venues, the sound is going to be best in the middle about midway back to the soundman. The sides are going to normally be imbalanced. The front row will sound not as great because you will get a lot of guitar amps and drums coming off the stage and not as much vocal. If I go see a show, I always try to stand back a bit and position between the two sides of the PA. We battle with this every night. Some of these clubs we are doing sound great and then some....well, just read this thread. It's tough. I talk to club owners and promoters every night and tell them that money spent on good PA and sound treatments to the room is money well spent. People know what clubs sound good. We see it in ticket sales in that the good sounding clubs will sell more tickets. Some clubs are so bad that people won't by tickets to see their favorite bands\ luv ya'll rogers

I'd still like to know why they delayed the show for over an hour and a half. I'm used to waiting if there is an opening band which requires changing of gear but all of the bands gear was ready to go when I got there at 8:30. My guess is it was a venue issue but when Brad announced only one more for the encore I was a little suspicious since there is no curfew that I know of. Oh well, it was nice to see them so up close so I can't complain. The guitar tech was a little rude when he acted like I wasn't there when I asked him a simple question. Lighten up buddy! I second what you mentioned about the crowd. After seeing the Lafayette show the night before, Mankato felt a bit subdued. I knew we were in trouble when the drunken co-ed behind me asked, "Is this a cover band? Where's Shannon?" I was also concerned Mr. Frat boy's beer was going to end up all over CT's board. I'm still wondering why Mankato of all places and why during homecoming weekend? Still, I was glad we decided to follow the bus and drive through the night to see this extra show. Wish our gas money would have went a little farther and we could have made it to Winnipeg tonight. Rogers told me after the show they were going to try Vernie in Canada for sure. The copy of the set list I snagged showed the encore was going to include Walk and end with Pusher. I wonder if they cut it short due to the lame crowd? We had to wait for everybody to get into the venue in Indiana...it took forever and we didn't want to start the show until the line was through. In Minnesota, the opening band had issues and couldn't make it. the radio station had been announcing a 10:30 show all day, so people were still coming in there as well. We had to wait, or people would've been pissed had they missed the show. We can't win. Punctuality is normally our strongest suit as a band. rogers

I hope the Rib Fest show is still on for August! Hi, the reason why this show was postponed is because there was a contractual conflict with the Ribfest show. Basically, they don't want bands on the Ribfest to play in Indianapolis during the days that surround the festival....makes sense for them. This was an oversight by our agent and we'll reschedule the show...don't have specifics yet. Apologies to those who bought the tickets. Are they not offering a refund? rogers

We will honor any Pointfest ticket at our next St. Louis show. We can't do it at ribfest because that's not our show (tix are apparently only $5). In October, November and December we will be doing another US tour that will bring us there, so we'll sort you out there. Plus, as a bonus, and of you who present a Pointfest ticket will get to take one free kick to Brad's nuts.
But seriously, we feel terrible about this...mistakes were made by us on this one and we will make it up to you. FYI...The decision had nothing to do with any of the other bands or anything like that.
In addition, East Coast dates are coming together for june into early july. Also, Europe is coming together for September.....also Canada is being worked on (not sure of the timing on that yet).

Radio stations get hammered every week by promo people begging them to play 'so and so's' new single. Every time I go into a radio station I try to talk to the programmer. They inevitably have several large stacks of new releases on their desk, and I always ask what's new and good. Sometimes they'll roll their eyes and say they haven't even had time to listen to everything. We have some great people working with us who have loads of experience. The radio game is really incredible....there's so much maneuvering to get a track played and everybody is afraid to make a bad choice because they might lose their jobs. The days of a DJ taking chances and playing something just because he loves it are long gone. Often times the playlists are created at a corporate level and aren't even a local choice. HOWEVER, the one thing that they will all respond to is requests. If they get enough requests for a song, sometimes that will make a difference. It's their only real contact with the public and one of the only ways they can figure out what works or not. I'm not asking ya'll to run up your phone bills and burn up your time requesting our song, I'm just trying to tell you how it is.
In our view, we're running a marathon rather than a sprint with this record. We know that we have a lot of work to do to give it a shot, and that's what we're doing. There will be more singles and more radio stuff...we'll get it done.

Hi Rocky
You have been heard.....I apologize for the late cancellation. Glen's email did not give a complete picture of why the show was cancelled. There are some political things afoot that it's best for me not to go into. In addition, we were mistakenly booked for 5 shows in a row, which we didn't know about until last week (out on the road I don't even know what's happening 2 days from now). As people are still recovering from being ill, it's been a struggle...
Excuses aside, you are still out $180. Please try to get a refund on your ticket. If this is not possible, we will refund your money. Matt (forum admin) has my email....let me know what happens.
In addition, we will be more on top of our bookings in the future and stuff won't get cancelled for reasons that are beyond illness...

Went to see Blind Melon in Los Angeles last night at the El Rey theater came all the way from Canada and I don't remember the show. Both my friend and had drugs put in our drink and ended up in the hospital. Just a warning for anyone going to the show tonight just outside of LA be very careful with your drinks. If anyone remembers my friend and I getting taken away in ambulances and can shed some light on what might of happened I would love to know and thanks to whoever helped us out. N this makes me nauseous......We are very upset by this. Please contact me through Matt who runs this forum...we will put you on the list for any show you want to come to. rogers

hey All (got your email Matt) I'm sorry about this. I didn't even know what a Digipack was until I read the above link. There is only one version of the cd, and I don't know how they came up with this information. I know it's a pain in the ass, but I suggest you return it and explain that you thought you were getting something different....get your money refunded. Apologies all around. I can never figure out how things get screwed up like this...... rogers
