......because down here in Tampa Bay they are not giving the song "wishing well" any air time on the radio or playing the video on our cable channels, and this song if promoted right can be the next huge hit for them because it's very catchy and contagious and may even surpass what "no rain" did. And no I'm not going to keep calling up any local stations to get it played because that is what the band's promoter is supposed to be doing.

I know the band's promo guy is supposed to be calling and all that, but isn't grass roots promo good also? That is how they got so big the first time. If you aren't the guy to call for your specific area, who will? The promo guy has tons to do! ;D

I think we all so what we can do to support the band. I promote them however I can...whether it's stickers on my car, wearing BM shirts, talking about them, calling stations. I don't much about promotions so I won't criticize.

Yes - Everyone should be calling their local redio stations, or logging into all of the stations' websites, to demand Blind Melon. We gotta do it. Promotion via band employees can only do so much. For example, I don't think the promoter is going to call my local station to let them know about the new single (way up here in nowhere-New Hampshire)... Thus, I call... and hope others will as well. If all of the forum members called 1 different radio station to demand Blind Melon's new single, we'd have over 2,500 station aware of the return, and aware of the new single. There are still tons upon tons of people (and radio stations) that don't know the band is back.

PS - Sirius and XM satellite radio would be the perfect start.
Let's let them know.
When I heard about the return of the band, I called the alternative XM station "Lucy" and requested Blind Melon. I told the guy that the band was back.... He played "No Rain" and said he "heard rumors of some reunion"...

That is how they got so big the first time. If you aren't the guy to call for your specific area, who will? Exactly. The people who kept Blind Melon alive since 1995 have been the grassroots fans. The band is on an independent label now so the band relies on the grassroots fans more than ever to get out there and spread the word. The band doesn't have a huge machine supporting them like they did last time around. Indie labels can only do so much when it comes to promotions, Adrenaline likely just doesn't have the cash to pay an entire staff to devote their full time jobs to making sure Blind Melon gets promoted. We are living in a time when it's harder than ever for bands to get mass media attention unless they have a huge force behind them. Unfortunately that huge force is typically a major label. Grassroots fans can be a huge force as well, so it looks like if you want Blind Melon to have the exposure they deserve you'll have to pick up the phone and start calling or emailing your local radio station, MTV, VH1, whatever... I think the NBC exposure they'll be getting on that show on June 1st is going to be great for getting the word out (assuming the editors decide to show some of their performance).

I have a full time job to worry about as well as 10,000 other responsibilities, so again it's not my job to promote a band that's been around for about 15 years off/on because they're supposed to be paying someone to do that like most known bands are.

I guess its a labor of love.

I don't know what to say about your overly negative and criticizing attitude all the time chrispy. You complain about something. . . when options are given. . . you just say. . . naw, all those options suck.
You said that there couldn't possibly be anyplace other than a flea market in your area to purchase vinyl. When a band member responded to your post and provided information that proved otherwise, you just disregarded it. If Rogers told you about a Tampa radio station that was playing their songs already, would you just say, "Oh, I prefer not to listen to that station."
So now you think there is "someone" who must be getting paid something to promote the band, and you don't think this person/people are doing a good enough job (in your opinion). It has been noted. . .
If you have ideas for their PR team, you could e-mail your thoughts and ideas to their myspace page or to Adrenaline Music Group. I don't think anyone is expecting you to carry this weight on your shoulders. But to just say someone must be getting paid to do this, and someone doesn't live up to your standards. . . well that's just being a critic, not a problem-solver.
Maybe you would like a giant corporate machine behind our favorite band. The music landscape has changed quite a bit since Blind Melon was riding their wave of popularity in the 90's. Music fans have stopped relying on these giant corporations to support the bands they they feel need the support. And you might not have the time. . . that's a legitimate reason. . . however, you DO have time to complain on a message board. . .

Radio stations get hammered every week by promo people begging them to play 'so and so's' new single. Every time I go into a radio station I try to talk to the programmer. They inevitably have several large stacks of new releases on their desk, and I always ask what's new and good. Sometimes they'll roll their eyes and say they haven't even had time to listen to everything. We have some great people working with us who have loads of experience. The radio game is really incredible....there's so much maneuvering to get a track played and everybody is afraid to make a bad choice because they might lose their jobs. The days of a DJ taking chances and playing something just because he loves it are long gone. Often times the playlists are created at a corporate level and aren't even a local choice. HOWEVER, the one thing that they will all respond to is requests. If they get enough requests for a song, sometimes that will make a difference. It's their only real contact with the public and one of the only ways they can figure out what works or not. I'm not asking ya'll to run up your phone bills and burn up your time requesting our song, I'm just trying to tell you how it is.
In our view, we're running a marathon rather than a sprint with this record. We know that we have a lot of work to do to give it a shot, and that's what we're doing. There will be more singles and more radio stuff...we'll get it done.

The band relies heavily on us! We are why they came back, let's show them we're still here for them and get them out there with their new stuff now!

Blind Melon doesn't wear makeup and dress in tight girl's clothing, so chances of them becoming huge in this day and age is slim. Sad but true.

As far as I know the record labels used to provide a promoter who got at least your first 1-2 singles played nationally once you signed with them, but maybe all that has changed and it's a shame because "Wishing Well" has top ten hit potential for sure(it's one of those songs you here once and want to hear again immediately).
And I am not upset with the band but moreso that the song is not being played regularly down here yet. And to those who have a problem with my attitude - get over it, because people aren't always going to be roses & rainbows on a daily basis and it's what makes life interesting.

I work hard every day to promote Blind Melon one way or another, and I like doing it. I feel good about it. I work 40 + hours a week with 10 hour shifts and a 45 minute commute each way, I volunteer every weekend to rescue and adopt out abandoned pets, I am planning a wedding, I make time to make my man a home cooked meal every night, I am responsible for my household budgeting and bill paying....but I also make time for Blind Melon and this forum because its important to me. Sometimes I feel like I don't know if I am coming or going....its all worth it though. I mean what If I decided I had too much going on and never created this forum? One fan can make a difference if they want to.
