song titles in order of my favorites:
1) Sometimes 2) Hypnotize 3) Wishing Well 4) Father Time 5) Broken Bones 6) Last Laugh 7) Underground 8) I Know (temporary title)
Everybody's got a couple of tunes here. We've all written a bunch more songs individually, but we haven't gotten to those. The process of choosing what to do is always fun. I've brought several things in that I was really high on and had 'em shot down in about 3 seconds. It's always odd to think you are on track with a song and then hear what everybody else thinks about it. The other guys liked the ones of mine that I liked the least. Travis has so many good ones that it's like fishing with dynamite to make choices there. He's really stepped up in a big way. Brad wrote "Father Time" and it's really beautiful....a sleeper. They all get deconstructed to various degrees...some of them change completely from the demo and some are pretty similar. "Sometimes" feels like something different than I can remember us ever doing....love it.

We watched all the videos in the studio and it was a welcome break from work. A lot of them were pretty damned good, I must say. We were all impressed. Glen brought a bunch of stuff and we all signed it for the winner, which Glen is going to reveal later(he's on his way back home). We've been working crazy hours...initially intended to do 6 songs but are now doing 8 so we haven't taken any days off. I've got a scorching case of studio fever. There's a back patio on the studio, so I spent time out there chain smoking and thinking about breathing fresh air. Songs sound great...some things sound like things we've not done before, and some sound like they could've been on the first record. It's wierd. Some of them sound like hits from another era or something. I think these songs are going to turn peoples ears, but it's tough to say. Objectivity is impossible in the studio. It's nice to work this way because there's nobody telling us what they think we should be doing...it's all coming from within. I'm spending all day tomorrow in front of an amp turned all the way up directly in front of my face in order to get feedback. I did it yesterday and my ears rang even more than they usually do. I really get off on the volume, which is not a very smart thing to do. Brad is making fun of me all the time because I'm trying to play guitar solos over all the songs....it's a nervous habit. Again ....great job on the vids, folks.

listen to Big Star - these days you can get 2 albums on one disc "Radio City" and "#1 Record" .....to me, if we were born in a different era, we might've sound something like them (at the risk of sounding presumtious). Travis kinda reminds me of the singer sometimes. 2 guitars, great drumming.......

The show went well.. Good sound... I guess Travis sounded great.. The recording can't be shared yet, unforunately. Rogers showed up to play 5 shows: The Pusher For My Friends Hypnotize Sleepyhouse To Spain I Stay As for the other shows. I'll be getting those anytime soon. Keep you all posted. yeah...this is correct information. The show was fun. Travis got up and played a few songs before I went up and it was the first time I had a chance to see him perform in front of an audience...it was eye-opening and awesome because he has no fear of being up there. You get the sense that he owns the stage and everyone else is just borrowing it. Anyway, his vocals were spot on. People in the audience were crying when we played "sleepyhouse", so either it was really good or totally horrible. I didn't have a chance to ask them. Also, the crowd was singing the 'goddamms" on 'the pusher' at top volume. Apologies for being cagey about sending out a show recording. We really want these songs to be presented in the studio versions before any live stuff gets out there. Once the album is released, we're totally cool with taping and all that stuff. I've been very busy here in LA with the recordings and music biz stuff, so I haven't had time to get back to my blog. I'm heading back to NYC now for a couple of weeks and will catch up. I'm also going to review the tracks on the Blind Melon tribute record this month. Perhaps I will do so in the voice of Simon Cowell. On a serious note, I was really sad to hear about Jon Larsons...emailed with him a few times and he seemed like a cool chap....RIP brother.... rogers

Hi All
We'll be getting the songs back up today. I had problems configuring the player. Me and computer = roomful of monkeys on typewriters. Also, burgeoning auteur Glen "Federico Fellini" Graham has made a really cool video which we'll figure out how to put up. The problems we're having are that we don't want to use the myspace player (sounds terrible) or youtube (looks terrible) or show it to you in person (smells terrible)....trying for quality control here people.

Hi all Rogers here...yes, the band does want this domain name (blindmelon.com). After the band ended, it was still kinda early on in the whole website thing, and we were all so upset that we didn't lock it down. I've been back and forth with the guy who owns it, and he has refused to sell it to the band, so we don't have a lot of recourse unless we wanted to take it to the courts, which is just too nuts to deal with. So I kinda gave up on it for now.... but we wanted to put a nice site together to preserve the name and memory of the band, as well as put out a lot of stuff that has not been seen or heard before. As you can imagine, the band has lots of photos and bits of music that were not together enough to release, so this would be the perfect place to put it out so ya'll could download etc. We could also make this board a part of the site (if that were amenable to the owners here). If someone manages to reason with this guy, then let us know. As always, we are very grateful to all of you here for keeping our music alive. take care rogers ps...join my new band's myspace page at www.myspace.com/tendertrio

very strange....I don't know what happened there. I got a message from myspace that said our account had been Phished, which was strange. I mean...I was sure those guys made plenty of money on the road and really didn't need run myspace scams in order to make ends meet. Oh well...
I tried to fix it...if anybody sees it go pear-shaped again, let me know..
...working on more mixes this week. All playing and singing is done and sounds great. We have a good idea now about which songs are going to be on the record, so that feels good.....similar feeling to a large bowel movement (apologies to those who are sensitive to scatalogical matters).

I've gotten countless emails over the years about this interview... We did this for a guitar magazine. The journalist brought in a bunch of tapes and played snippets for us and asked us for humorous comments on them, and being somewhat young, drunk, and stupid, we complied. I think Dream theater fans look forward to pissing on my grave. One of those moments you'd like to take back, but I've got plenty of those....

We're going to redo the packaging in the fall and do a rerelease that'll likely include more tracks. We're working it out so that those who bought the first "Live at the Palace" release will be able to exchange it for the new one.....we'll keep you posted.

Hi Shinn's Theory.. I'm not sure what's going to happen with the release at this point. We've requested a meeting with Capitol in a coupla weeks, so we'll find out some more then. We're very meticulous about the quality of what we put out there, so as you can imagine, this is disappointing and embarrasing. We work very hard to preserve the legacy of the band and Shannon, and I can tell you without reservation that this is the kind of thing that woulda sent Shannon through the roof. He's probably spinning in his grave as we speak. Also, thanks to the previous poster for pointing out the problem. rogers

Dear friends of the Melon,
We are very disappointed with the new "Live at the Palace" release. I have not seen a hard copy of the disc yet, but I was aware several months ago that the track list was scrambled when they made an aborted attempt to put it on Itunes, but did not know that this was off on the disc as well. We've been around the bend with Capitol about this, and they pretty much did what they wanted to anyway. The band does not have a manager now, so we didn't have anyone to run interferece with the label, and were dealing with it ourselves. We hated the cover, nobody who worked on it was credited, and it was put together without any consideration for our wishes. Last year, we worked closely with Capitol to release the "best of" and "live at the metro" releases, but some new people took over and just didn't care for our input. If you go to itunes Australia or England, you'll see the cover that we picked, which fits the theme of the other releases. Brad and Christopher spent a week mixing this thing and got no credit. Lyle Eaves (our live sound engineer) facilitated the recording...and again no credit. We wanted to honor our crew members who stuck with us through some unbelievably difficult touring...again no credit. We stand by the quality of the show and recording, but cannot remain silent about what they did with it. It's a goddamm shame, too, because Capitol treated us very well to this point. As always, we appreciate your support......
