Glen told us not to worry. These things take time. Hopefully they won't have to wait another ten + years. I am sure that they are trying their best to find someone. I will never truly count Travis T out either. ONe thing I have learned in my life is that time heals many wounds and if people are willing to make an effort they can do just about anything in life!

that the band may not find a new singer that 'fits' and blind melon call it a day? Walter Melon, After Mr. Warren entered the scene, it was like a breath of fresh air. I was so excited as everyone else of course. First time I heard Harmful Belly I knew they were back w/ something great. I am absolutely worried that they won't be able to find the same magic, and go their seperate ways again. At least they stay busy, and do other projects that they will bee able to tour with. It just isn't the same. The last tour I saw them 5 times because I was that excited they were back, I refused to miss them. So yeah, once again, I am super worried because they gave me one of the best years of my life musically, and it may never come back. #piratedrink#

I think they've set their standards pretty high, which is great, but when you do that finding somebody is gonna take awhile. I mean, they turned down Chris Shinn.....Not that I don't support that decision, I really, really do, but if a guy of his caliber didn't "fit", then you know the standards are way up there. And then there's the fact that I'm sure they don't spend every waking hour of every day searching for a new singer, they've got families and interests outside the band that rightfully should consume the majority of their time. And once they find somebody that they think fits, who's to say they won't wanna keep it quiet for several months or a year to jam with him and get to know him before they introduce him to us. I think with Travis we all learned a lesson about talent fit vs. personality fit. Not saying anything bad about Travis's personality, I'm just saying he and the rest of the band didn't seem to gel on that level.
If they said they're not giving up, then they're not giving up, but I think it's gonna be awhile, a long while, before we know who the new guy is gonna be.

I agree - everyone got excited about the new momentum...then it hit a telephone pole. It wasn't like they outwardly showed signs of slowing down. They inadvertantly teased us into new expectations and now we're all waiting for them to be fulfilled. It's gong to take some time. I believe they'll be back but I feel like they're going to be even more selective because if the same thing happens again it's going to wear thin on a lot of people and it may be harder for them to be taken seriously as a band again at least within the industry.

Not worried that we will get a sub-par Melon if they find another singer. Worried that they will not be able to find THAT singer. Catching lightning in a bottle for a third time seems so improbable to me. There are days that I would like to ask Travis... WTF DUDE!?!!? I feel like a family member betrayed me. Like kicked when lying down. I sometimes wonder if it would have been better not to have version 2.0 than to have it and have it whisked away like it was. Just so VERY disappointed. BM was my band back in the day. To get that back was INCREDIBLE! Their music transports me out of the daily grind and to that carefree place I was at 19. Plus, with rock radio in the abysmal place it is, I cling to any solid live rock act that exists today... BM, Black Crowes, Phish, ABB, Supersuckers. Sorry... didn't mean to be Debbie Downer. Fingers crossed!

I fall into the category of being worried. I really hope they find a new singer but perfect singers for a band just don't show up on peoples door steps. I don't think Travis will ever be back. Nor Chris Shinn. In the back of mind, I picture (and hope for) a crusty hippy with dreads singing for them. Someone who brings back the down home vibe and hippy/jam band vibe. I think if they find the right singer, they can steam roll to the front of the jam band scene and sit down in the middle of the scene and smoke a joint. They've got the chops to do it. Ok, I'm rambling now.... So yeah, I'm worried that I don't get to see Blind Melon for another 10 years. That would suck.

I have resigned myself to the fact that there probably won't be another talent like Shannon Hoon in my lifetime. I've kept an open mind and acknowledged that while the end result of a new singer was different, it was still something I like, while doing justice to the old songs. What worries me is that anytime you stray from the original, you get something different. Stray even further and it's even more different; maybe so different that I won't like it; because it's nothing like what attracted me to begin with. I'm not trying to speak for the guys, just speculating, but perhaps that's why their standards are so high, and they're not willing to just jump back in; even if the singer is fantastic, all of the pieces of the puzzle must fall into place or it just isn't worth sticking your neck out for. I can't say that I would blame them. I think maybe they are covering our butts as well as theirs. They know their fan-base comes from that certain, special sound they create as a whole. If they don't like it, we probably wouldn't like it either. You can only change something so many times before it's completely unrecognizable to what it started out as. Each future decision becomes crucial for maintaining the integrity of the band.
I do worry that I won't get to see the Blind Melon I love, live in concert, but I will try to be patient and keep hoping that 3 is the magic number.

I really feel strongly about the potential of this band (with the right singer). I hear ya with the jam band scene comment too. They do have the chops and with the right singer they could have the magic to be at the top of the jam band scene as well as at the top of their game. It has to be someone with the very rare spark that Shannon had but someone so completely different from Shannon at the same time as not to be compared. I've voiced my opinion in another thread before about who I feel (may?) fit the part, and I'll leave it at that. This board can be a very unfriendly place when speaking on such a touchy subject. Everyone is just speculating anyway. No one will ever truly know who's "right" until we hear it!!! At this point these guys seem like they could be pretty jaded after everything they've gone through. Let's hope they can keep an open mind and see past the cynicism or who knows, it might be another 10 years or "Maybe next life time!" PRETTY- sad.

I'd like to see the actual band playing music again but I think the group Blind Melon has run it's course. And even though I loved the new album with Travis and have listened to it probably 100+ times, it never caught on with mainstream radio down here in Tampa and was never played on the air.

Wow. . .
I can't say for sure that the radio stations here in Denver never played For My Friends. I would have had to listen to all of the rock and alternative radio stations from this region simultaneously all the time, to be able to make a conclusive statement like that.
And I would just like to say, "Maybe Blind Melon has run its course for you, chrispy." You might have given up on Blind Melon, but there are plenty who are still sending this band their positive and encouraging vibes.

Dude I drive for a living doing medical supplies so I am constantly in the car flipping around to different stations, and I have never heard their new songs played once not to mention you can look up local radio top 40 playlists, and they never made the cut on any of them I can assure you.

Our big rock station here for the past 15 years is "98 Rock", and below I have included a link to their top 100 bands and/or songs they play everyday and unfortuneatly Blind Melon isn't even on that. Now we have an 80's/90's type station here that plays "No rain" about 2-3 times a week but that's about it unfortuneatly. www.98rock.com/iplaylist/playlist.html
