As The Floyd so eloquently put it in "Waiting for the Worms"..................."Goodbye cruel world it's over, walk on by."

wow lots of optimistic posts...atleast everyone will be in for a surprise when Blind Melon returns!!! But then you risk getting into a David Lee Roth to Sammy Haggar back to David Lee Roth to nobody situation, and now alot of people think that Van Halen has become a joke in their later years.

personally, I'm not totally worried about it. the thing is, and it's been said in this thread I'm sure, is that it could take YEARS before they find someone amazing. that would be worth the wait, and I'd be happy to check out any side projects anyone starts in the meantime. it would be really disappointing if they called it a day, but if they're meant to be together and creating the magic, even if they DID call it off, something would resurrect it. it really is a shame it didn't work out with travis, but I can only believe that's because someone even more incredible is on the way at some point.

They will do what they need to do to make things happen. If they can't find someone to be Blind Melon's singer I think they will move on with perhaps a new singer, new name, set of songs etc...but keep the door open to picking up where they left off with Blind Melon when the right person comes along. Rogers said they enjoy playing music with each other too much to quit. But they are having trouble finding someone who can pull of Shannon's songs. So maybe a new project together in the meantime would be a good idea. Something totally separate. Maybe that's not their bag, perhaps it's all or nothing with the 4 of them in which case we wait.
Interesting to discuss in the meantime though. And I agree, I'd check out ANY side projects they put together.

I do not feel it's a bad thing if Blind Melon is gone forever. They have given us some great music and great moments. It will be extremely difficult to catch lightning in a bottle again. I worry that the greatness could be tarnished if they keep trying. It seems the legend of some of the bands that have lost such charismatic lead singers grows over time if they never try to reform. Something about leaving the fans wanting more but not being able to get it. What would The Doors legend be if 40 years ago they tried to continue on?? But don't get me wrong that's not what I hope for. I love to see them play live, I love to hear the original songs live, I was too young to see them back in the day so this is as close to it as I will ever get. Good luck to the guys and may the force be with you.

I think it's clear that they want Blind Melon to go on. I just think there would be nothing wrong with putting it on hold, even if they form something with the 4 of them but a totally different project. Or side project, whichever. I am also assuming they learned a lot about what they do and don't want after working with Travis. So I'm sure they'll make a great choice, especially since it seems they are willing to wait for the right person.

I think I'd be lying if I said it didn't scare me a little to think that they MAY not find someone but moreso because I missed them YET AGAIN!!! Seems cancer never wanted me to see a show. In 1993 I had a chance to go to a show but was pregnant so I passed. I remember saying, "Oh, they're young guys. They'll be around forever!" Then my son was diagnosed with cancer and I was chained to my house and the hospital until 1998. When I was ready to go I remember watching MTV as Kurt Loder mentioned Shannon. I told my husband to hush cuz I KNEW they were announcing the Soup tour. Imagine my shock at hearing that Shannon had passed away. I remember taking my son out on the step and crying. I was never the same after that. Then the reformation was announced and I was ecstatic! Travis had that special something all his own AND could do Shannon justice. Then my mother-in-law was diagnosed with cancer and I was her primary caregiver. Again, I said, "It'll be fine. I have lots of time but I'm not going to make the same mistake." More the fool am I. Not only did I have to miss every show but I even missed the vigil (my first missed since 2001) and that amazing show! My mother-in-law passed away the day of the vigil from her cancer. I shudder at the thought of #3 and yet yearn for there to be that magic #3. I need Blind Melon and they need me. And you, and you, and you, and you, and you, and you, and you too! Please don't give up hope...if I can keep the faith, surely those of you who were lucky enough to catch a show or 5 can hang in there with me! Never give up guys....you're too talented to hang it up! Not only The Doors but other groups like Queen, Nirvana, Gin Blossoms, and INXS, either called it quits or failed miserably trying to go on after their popular lead singers died.

man ... if someone lost a family member, would you expect the family to go on working ? would you expect the family to change their names ?

The way I look at it is I never would have imagined getting the opportunity this last time around, but we did. No one expected it. Out of nowhere Blind Melon was resurrected. Never would I have thought to see them again, but it happened. Why can't that happen again? I see no reason. Maybe it may take awhile, but if the boys want it bad enough there will be someone out there...I miss TTW and hope that one day the scars will heal. Never say never. And no matter what, if they do come back just tell yourself that three is the magic number...May sound corny, but I personally cannot wait to see where they go from here...It aint over yet...

I'm not personally worried. If they want it, it will happen. If they don't feel they have found, or will ever find, the right person, it won't happen. Which would be better than another disappointment. I also don't think they'll ever stop making music. What would be disappointing is if they stopped making music with a touring band. Because I want to see them live. As Blind Melon or whoever. Look at all the side projects they were involved in...not a bad one in the bunch. I think the only reason we wouldn't see them touring in some form would be because they were over it or had other priorities. Whatever they decide to do will be right for them. And all signs point to them not being ready to give it up.
I can see why you would be scared Vintage Melon...if you haven't seen them...twice...and on top of it dealing with family illness...it would feel pretty crappy to not get the opportunity again. I think that puts a different spin on it for sure. I can dig it. Hopefully it will all work out so BM is back. But if it doesn't, I think it will be for the right reasons.

The ONLY way you get played on corporate rock radio today, is if your record company pays to have you played. period. It has nothing to do with talent. If you believe otherwise you are very naive. Keep in mind the guys financed the album themselves. There is no record company to pay to have it forced down your throat.
