First off I'd like to say that I am happy for all of the Melon fans out there that are enjoying the new music the guys are putting out with Travis now, and whomever may front the band in the future. Soak it up! But as I sit here listening to the songs of the Shannon era, I can't help but notice a definite difference between the music from the ripe Melon days to the new tunes. Furthermore, my favorite song has to be the band's cover of "Candy Says" because the arrangement is simply amazing and the tone of the song is great and it evokes a greater feeling of bliss in my still young soul. I do enjoy the new music but nothing really grabs me, so far. I don't mean to start any arguments here, sorry if you disagree with me... . A good day to all, and best of luck to the band.

I like everything they released. Personally, I wouldn't pick a cover song as my favorite.
I hope, with whoever sings for the band in the future, pulls in "Swallowed" as part of the live setlist, as well as "Father Time".
Cover songs are cool, to a point... But, I would never stamp ANY cover song, the band did, as being "Blind Melon". Because, it's not... They just put a twist to songs they enjoy/enjoyed.

Maybe it isn't real melony but I have really been digging "Cheetum Street". Yes the new stuff is different than the old but every single new song I have found something I like about them. I believe if they stick with it, the best is yet to come. As for Candy Says I love that song too. SHit I guess I like anything that this band does!!!

From the T.T.W. era, Cheetum Street is one of my favorites too!!! dbieon12 - There's a funny thing about human nature: We want what we can't have and take for granted what we do have. Before Shannon died, Soup really didn't do it for me, I'll be honest. Call me short-sighted or narrow minded if you will, but it wasn't there for me, with exception to one or two songs. And I HATED the lyrics. LMFAO about that now! I thought they were stupid incoherant ramblings of a self indulgent wanna be rock star. Anyway, after he died, I shelved the c.d. and the self titled because I was pissed he o.d.'d, and also because I was with a controlling, narrow minded woman at the time who would not allow me to listen to that "garbage" as she put it, in her presence. I know, prolly T.M.I. Sorry. Anyway, several years later I dusted off Soup and it blew my mind. Listening to it with the knowledge that it was the end of the line, along with some personal issues which helped me relate to Shannons condition, it totally blew my mind. I really do get the same vibe from the new music. A third of the disk really grabs me, the rest is good but doesn't move me so much. But I can definately see, how if this is the end of the line for the T.T.W. era, and a few years of dust were to accumulate on it, how it would move me much the same way Soup did when it had it's rebirth with me. Sometimes as time goes on we're given a different perspective from things we go through, and especially if it's something that's gone and we can never get it back. We're graced with a new set of ears, so to speak. So maybe try to keep that in mind, is all.

yeah, its amazing what a little perspective can do. i love all their stuff old and new because its honest and real....i think as i think you were sayin, part of the reason the old music is so emotional is because its like a story or a painting...it makes sense when you look at the whole picture....we have the whole picture with shannon.... were still building with travis...or whoever else may be with them....for me, i connect with alot of the new music, not just the lyrics or singin, the music..the guys emotion just really shines through...you never know what you may be able to draw from somethin in the future...you never know what experiences may connect you with certain music.....

It's my favourite off FMF. I saw BM 4 times with Travis and the new songs were very much on the back burner. I wished I had heard more. I get why, the majority of people were there to hear the old stuff. In fact, it seemed (from crowd reaction) that a large portion of the audience didn't even own For My Friends. It actually shocked me how many people didn't know BM were back together period. I've said it before, I love FMF, LOVE it. I think it was FULL of awesome songs. Some I connect with more than others of course, but it is very much a BM album to me. No Blind Melon album from here on out will ever be like the "old days" because Shannon was Shannon. He was unique. But Blind Melon is a band...so anything they release will be Blind Melon, and whoever is singing for them will (hopefully) be just as unique as Shannon was but it can never be the same.

Father Time is also just one of my most favorite songs. I repeat it 3 times when listening FMF. I have to join that fan club.
Anyway, I really have to agree with what melondew said
Would I take Shannon being back any day over Travis? YES, in a heartbeat!!!! However, I can appreciate what Travis has done here with Blind Melon and where this band is now. If they released an album today with Shannon it wouldn't be quite the same either. I can honestly say that I love FMF. Its a great album, it has a great message, and the heart is there. The passion Blind Melon put into every note is obvious to me and I can feel it when listening to the CD.

I couldn't agree more. FMF was real, honest, there were those moments where you could feel their excitement at being together again! Travis fit...and Cheetum Street had me from the very 1st listen! So did Tumblin' Down and I think TTW and Brad are quite a force to be reckoned. #hoonsmiley#

I saw BM two times last year, and loved every minute of it. At an outdoor concert in St. Louis I talked with Brad for like 20 minutes before the show. My son got a bunch of pics from Rogers too. It was awesome. Afterwards the guys all signed my For My Friends shirt.
I really like Travis and his rendetions of the old songs. I also love the new songs. I listen to my FMF all the time, a couple of times per week. I think its bad A!

Some of what you say is true. Shannon was one of a kind. No one can replace him or should even try. When you speak of Travis though, you compare him in mannerisms. Any fan, myself included, hears certain songs and will emulate what Shannon has done because we remember every move he made. I disagree that there was something missing from TTT and especially FMF. I saw TTT 4 different times and they put on an awesome show every time. I understand what you mean by not being able to turn the song/record off. However, I disagree on one part in particular and am somewhat offended. How can you call Rogers "the dictator?" If he was an overbearing, manipulative asshole who called all the shots why would ANY of them want to play with him again? I think Rogers is very careful about what he puts out as an artist AND as a band member. He wants the fans to be happy but our happiness stems DIRECTLY from the happiness of the band itself. They want to be sure they put out quality music and therefore something we will enjoy. To insinuate that Rogers runs the whole thing is absolutely false. No band could survive with someone running roughshod over the rest. My personal feeling is that Blind Melon IS A BAND just as they have always claimed, just as they will always be. Regardless, I could NEVER see them as a cover band and disagree 1000% on that comment although you are entitled to your opinion as I am to mine. We, as fans, are so passionate in our opinions and I'm not taking any personal shots at you Kristian. I merely disagree for the reasons I've listed.

I am not going to bother arguing your opinion, we all are entitled to our own. For the life of me I cannot figure out where you're getting that vibe from Rogers. Is the 2 meter video the only point of reference for that? It's obvious he's just giving Shannon crap, seems like more of a joke to me. I believe he was closest to Shannon out of all the guys so I think it was all in good humor.
Also, Travis on stage reminds me more of Maynard than Shannon. I hardly see any "Shannon moves" come out of him but a ton of Maynard moves.

I think it is safe to say that some of your statements are "assumptions". Some of your statements are opinions, and that's fine. You are allowed your opinions here. But as far as Rogers being the decider of what goes on, I definitely disagree. He tends to be a spokesperson for the band yes - but I seriously doubt that he is a dictator making all decisions for the band.
I know it can be difficult to wait and be patient. . . . but do we really have a better option than waiting for their official statement (no matter who delivers the message)? Conjecture, assumptions, presumptions, expectations, and suspicions don't really move this discussion anywhere positive.
Patience will deliver an answer to us one day (whether its the answer we want to hear or not).
Kristian I am not going to stop you from calling Rogers a dictator because this place is a forum for discussion, but at the same time, I won't sit back and not refute such a statement. I think there is plenty of "assumption" in your statements above. . .

I’ll admit to Travis “ripping off” Maynard as much as Shannon was “ripping off” Morrison or so and so was ripping off so and so, so what? Not worth an argument. More importantly I was interesting in your comments about Rogers. I am not surprised he said that, he’s said the same here in the forum. Doesn’t make him a dictator any more than the band member(s) who didn’t want to have a go at it with Rene when Rogers wanted to. Rogers just doesn’t want to move in the direction Chris would take them. All I know is they will end up doing whatever all of them want to.
