Ishbell told me to come back to this thread so here I am-
um...let's see what I've been reading
God For The Perplexed - Keith Ward (very, very good book which covers almost every theological view of God possible!)
The Lore Of The Bard - Pete Rowan
Essentials Of Pantheism (this is a piece of shit, I'm not going to even explain why)
God's Heretics: The Albegenisian Crusade - Aubrey Buri
The Real Middle Earth - Brian Bates
The Jesus Mysteries - Timothy Freke & Simon Ghandy
so I'm almost done with them, hopefully I'll get another big batch for Christmas. I'm planning on reading Paradise Lost too finally, I've been meaning to for a long time.

I actually saw Sinead live once-- she was at Lollapalooza '95. That was the day I tried acid for the first time, and I can vividly remember that she was singing slow, soft, very sad songs, and it was making the sidewalk very sad to hear them. I sat and cried for a long time in sympathy with the poor sidewalk....
As far as book are concerned: I read a LOT. I started reading absurdly early, at age 2, and I've almost never stopped since. Meredith, I adore the Dark Tower series. There's only one book that might be more special to me, and that's Watership Down. If you've never read it, you should. Don't be put off by the fact that it's about a bunch of rabbits; their experiences and feelings are as real as any person's. That has to be my favorite ever... and when I love a book, I read it again and again. Some former favorites include the Anne books, by L. M. Montgomery, The Clan of the Cave Bear series, by Jean M. Auel, and Insomnia, by Stephen King. And yes, I love the Harry Potters, too.

I would definitely recommend "The Remains of the Day" by Kazuo Ishiguro. There's a movie made according to the book starring Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson but the book is wayyy better

I almost feel really stupid posting here when ya'll are serious readers and I read basically historical romance novels! I also write books as well and am getting ready to publish them soon and continue. I write mostly contemporary but am thinking of dabbling in historical myself. I am also a HUGE fan of Native American history and it pisses me off too when I read some of the things people say and do. I gave some old jewelry away recently when I found it and realized it was Black Hills gold. Ironically I am right now wearing a shirt with Mt. Rushmore on it and standing in front are Sitting Bull, Geronimo, Cochise, and Crazy Horse and under them it says, ""The Original Founding Fathers" -a favorite of mine. Anyway, I don't suppose anyone read historical romance here do they? Diana #hoonsmiley#

I'm currently reading "Twitch and Shout" by Lowell Handler. I only got it because it was recommended to help me "cope"... I don't have coping problems but it's not a bad book.
Any books, authors, subjects suggestions for me? I'm hitting a blank right now... I want to read...but don't know what... I don't particularly like fiction...some isn't bad but I can't really stand fantasy all that well... Stephen King and Dean Koontz are good...but I'm not looking for that kind of book... I'm looking for more of an at least fact/life based book i guess... it doesn't have to be like a biography or anything but any interesting...thinking type book...that gives a real vibe...i guess... any good book i'll at least check out sometime...
I was thinking about checking out a Bukowski book...anyone like him?

It's a true story of 4 boys that get sent to reform school after a prank gone bad and get physically and sexually abused. Im just finishing it and it's one of my faves already!

Ohhhhh and also Cell 2455: Death Row by Carryl Chessman.
Best book ever if you're into crime books (it's autobiographical)

I was thinking about checking out a Bukowski book...anyone like him? Ah yes, Bukowski. What have you heard about him? I think he was awesome and have every book he ever wrote. Summing him up, if you like the subjects of Drinking, Smoking & Screwing, you'll dig Hank. The best place to start is with his novel, Ham On Rye. (Later edit) Oh, wow, MJPM, I just saw how young you are. You could probably get in trouble possessing a book by Hank. Hmmm. I'm lousy at advice, what can I say?

Anyway. . .
I usually have 3 books all going at once.
The Bathroom Book currently is "There but for Fortune: The Life of Phil Ochs" by Michael Schumacher.
I just finished "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins and "The World Without Us" by Alan Weisman. Both, most excellent.
I'm also reading "The People Look Like Flowers At Last: New Poems" by Charles Bukowski. From what the publisher says, finally, his last book of posthumus new stuff. Pretty amazing run and Hank probably has the world record for releasing the most new books after yer dead. It's been almost 14 years of books, one a year since he died.
I've just started reading, "Can You Feel The Silence". A biography about Van Morrison.
Ah, and I'm also reading, "Good Blonde And Others" by Jack Kerouac.
There is one more I'm reading currently but I'm spacing that one off. Not surprising eh.

Is anyone into Fitzgerald?! I just finished reading "The Beautiful and Damned", and it was great. I had to mark a few pages so I could read them again - some of his words are like poetry. I love his stuff because it's all about the 1920's Jazz Age, a time of excess, scandle... it's cool.

Thanks Gabbee and Buzzcat, I can't really say what kind of books I like so I'll check them out... I also usually read two or three books at once anyway so it wont be a problem.
I don't know much about him...a friend of mine said I might like Ham on Rye... I wouldn't count on me getting in trouble... no one really pays attention to what I do...
