By the way, I'd just like insist that someone please pick up Cell 2455 by Caryl Chessman... Thank me later! I just submitted a request to have it sent to my local library from a different library in the county. I just finished The Rum Diary by Hunter S. Thompson and started reading Naked Lunch by William S. Burroughs. Gabby didn't you say you recently read Naked Lunch? I've never read anything by Burroughs. I'm having to get used to his writing style, but I'm intrigued. I've never read anything like this before. THANK YOU!! Tell me what you think of the Chessman book. I first read Naked Lunch in the 9th grade... I had been in American for less than 2 yrs so I did not understand half of what I was reading... I remember people kept looking at me weird b/c of the title of the book, they thought I was reading some sort of erotic novel Then I read it again a few yrs later and wow, what an intense book! I still had a hard time with the writing style too and in fact, I think I should pick it up yet again! I finally started Lovely Bones though and it's really interesting so far!

I first read Naked Lunch in the 9th grade... I had been in American for less than 2 yrs so I did not understand half of what I was reading... Gabby, English is my native language, it's my best subject in school and I STILL am not understanding half of what I'm reading. The parts that I understand are very enjoyable (it's almost like reading really good poetry at times), but other parts jump around so much it's hard to figure out what's going on. It's almost like reading something written in the "stream of consciousness" style where you don't even think about what you're writing, you just write...but it doesn't always make sense. Some of the subject matter is grotesque, I can only imagine what you thought when you read it as a 9th grade girl. I can only imagine that Burroughs was on a heroin trip when he wrote the book, and some parts came out clearer than others. I don't know...I'm only 40 pages into it so I can't really give a full assessment or interpretation of it.

I'm gonna try going to the library at my school tomorrow... I was going to get the great gatsby but my sister wants to read it and it would look weird getting two of the same books (can not be found in if at all at any public library here!) so I'll browse around the shelfs see what comes up.
oh yeah... I found a copy of death of a salesman in a box so I'm reading that at school... still need one for home i'm afraid.
I did find a book I haven't read lying around my house on Ireland... but it might be an information dictionary type thing and not a book... I've read worse I guess

I highly recommend the Lovely Bones. It was an awesome book and gives you a different take on things for sure...anyone have a suggestion as to what I should read next? Murder mysteries are my faves, true crime, history, supernatural

I am currently reading "The Unauthorized Biography of Axl Rose" I can't say that I have learned too much about him that I didn't already know. I am only 50 pages into it.
Sam, do you read James Patterson books? I just got finished with 7th Heaven...it was good.

It is. I preordered it from Amazon and I got it last week. It's interesting enough. I do like reading the little discrepancies between this book and Slash's book.

Sam, if you're into true crime books you should pick up "Cell 2455" or "Helter Skelter" (sensationalist but good).

If you like crime novels, I HIGHLY reccomend anything by George Pelecanos. I just finished The Night Gardener and loved it. Pelecanos is a producer and writer for the Wire. Enough said!

I'm really bad at reading one book at a time, I tried with One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest and now I'm reading that and Slaughterhouse Five... I'm further in this than the other one because it's an e-book and I read faster for some reason... I'm liking both though.
still haven't made a dent in the psychology one though but I'm still considering it.
