I'm so excited! Greg and I just bought tickets to see Medeski Martin & Wood on March 6th!!!! Chris Wood's side project (The Wood Brothers) will be opening. I can't believe we actually found a babysitter on a weeknight so we can go to this....we are always missing shows because the type of shows we go to are usually late night shows in clubs where kids aren't allowed. MMW is one band that we try to do whatever we have to do to make it to the show...and the fact that The Wood Brothers are opening is the icing on the cake. In my opinion The Wood Brothers' album Ways Not To Lose was the best new release in 2006. It will be a real treat to see them live. ;D
I know there are some more MMW fans who post here so I decided to make this thread so we can discuss them.

I'm diggin it, although I only through the first song, reminds me of van morrison, but more instrumental. I honestly don't know if I'm going this year it really all depends on the money or if I can find a way to get in for free like all the other times, I will go If I can though, why you thinking about going?

I'm diggin it, although I only through the first song, reminds me of van morrison, but more instrumental. I think that's what Kevin (tripticket) said...they reminded him of Van Morrison. I'm really not familiar with Van Morrison so I can't weigh in on that with a personal opinion. Maybe now that two people have compared them to Van Morrison I should become more familiar with their music. Greg and I have *thought* about going for the past few years. The lineup of bands is always so great and it seems to be less chaotic than Bonnaroo (we did go to Bonnaroo a couple years ago and it was insane). My parents live about 45 minutes from Manchester, TN so Bonnaroo is always an option for us, however Kansas isn't a convenient trip for us by any means so that's why Wakarusa has never turned into a reality, although we continue to fantasize about going. We think maybe Langerado in Florida is more realistic...and we definitely plan to go to JazzFest in the near future (hopefully next year). Who knows...maybe one year we'll drop the kids off in TN, rent a motorhome, and drive to KS for Wakarusa...after Bonnaroo I discovered I'm not the type of girl who can camp for 3 days without air conditioning and modern plumbing facilities. Maybe when I was 18 and more adventurous...but now that I'm a 28 year "old lady" I've been spoiled by modern conveniences.

Here's a link to Medeski Martin & Wood's myspace: www.myspace.com/medeskimartinandwood I figure I better post it since I posted The Wood Brothers link. The only similarity between MMW and The Wood Brothers is that groovy deep stand up bass sound. Chris Wood f'n rocks that instrument! It's a trip to watch him play it live...they are all masters of their instruments. Mindblowing talent!

when I said it sounded like Van morrison I meant the singing, the actual instrumentation is quite different, anyways heres his myspace I know you've heard brown eyed girl before www.myspace.com/vanmorrison I've seen MMW so I would more be looking toward the wood brothers more than them at wakarusa, if you get a chance make the trek down here, I gurantee you won't regret it, you can also buy single day passes that way if you don't want to stay the whole time you can see the specific band you want to see ;D

It looks like they are both scheduled to play on the same day. You should get a one day pass for that day (I think it was June 10th) and you can check them both out. At least you know they won't be scheduled to play during the same time slot since Chris Wood can't be in two places at once.
