Right on! As long as they're playing music, who cares.

"I'm not trying to suggest anything here. I'll be happy with whatever the name is." 'suggest' has also another meaning in French, sorry i meant you gave the example of The Grateful Dead being called the Dead now as a possible name solution for the new blind melon. the more i try to explain myself, the more unclear i am LOL

yeah i'm not too concerned with the name, i'd like if if they kept blind melon though.
but what i'm thinking about now is how some of the songs would sound from a different singer. like 'change,' that's just kind of Shannnon's song. and what about walk? st. andrew's fall? i don't think it would sound right coming from someone else. but stuff like soak the sin, time, skinned, i think someone else could pull that off. hell now that i think about it, Soup, there's no way someone would sing that song like Shannon. not that the new singer couldn't sing it, or anyone else, but the feeling....Shannon's voice gives that song the feeling to it.

I also think New Life is a song that shouldn't be touched, since it's about Nico.

I'm sure there's a few tunes that they wouldn't play, like New Life, just because of the personal subject matter. Actually, when they do, if they do, bring it on the road i'd be more interested in hearing whatever originals they have.

I think they have enough common sense to know what songs to touch and what songs not to. New Life is obvious, and I know Change was Shannon's song, but the message is universal so I wouldn't have a problem if Travis sang it. Anyone who has soul can sing a song with feeling even if they didn't write it. I don't think the guys would do a reunion if they didn't feel they had found the right man for the job...who would be able to pull off old material and contribute a hell of a lot of new material. I definitely think there are songs that came from deep inside Shannon's mind and reflected a lot of issues that were going on with him personally, but probably the best thing about Shannon's lyrics is that anyone who has had even a little bit of life experience can totally relate to what he's saying. We'll just have to wait and see what they decide to do and I can't wait to hear new material and some good jams but I think it's important that they don't neglect the music that they all made together as one. I personally will be looking forward to hearing songs like I Wonder, Time, Deserted, Soak The Sin...I could go on forever but basically what it boils down to is that the guys have good heads on their shoulders and I don't think they would do anything that would step on Shannon's heavenly toes. I think Shannon would be really happy that they are all able to come together again and make music together. Just my opinion...

Well said - the guys know what they're doing, and I'm sure they won't touch the songs that shouldn't be touched as a newly formed 'Blind Melon' in respect to Shannon. I'm really excited about hearing some of the Melon tunes played again - good times ahead people!

Wow, this thread was sure alive today!!! Read the things Rogers writes in the new cd inserts... What new cd inserts?? I heard that during their first few sessions, they performed 10 Melon tunes. What do you mean by "performed" Matt? You mean played, during their "private" session, they didn't performed live already, right???!!

I agree with you, as I told you more or less in the pm... I was listening to some Blind Melon jams today, the ones on the cds that Matt sent me , never heard them before and it sure feels good to discover some new melon material!!! They're great, but I couldn't help thinking how the lyrics, the singing is missing...I found they were kind of jams where singing just fits in so good. And I thought, yeah, Shannon should jump in here. So it made me start thinking what will BM be without him, his sweet voice and amazing lyrics. I'm sure they'll make great music and if they'll do old Blind Melon songs, I don't think Travis will touch me as much as Shannon does but he's a good singer and hearing melon songs live would be just AWESOME!!!!! I don't expect them to be like the old Blind Melon, lots of time passed by since Shannon's death and lots of things happened...but I'm still VERY excited and curious about the music they'll make! I always wondered what it'd be! Blind Melon was a BAND and it's awesome to think that all those great musicians are ALL back together again!!!! #cucumber#

Hey, i really like how they selected Travis in private instead of doing it on one of those Rockstar shows like INXS and Supernova... It seems so right to do it that way...
Im totally fine with any name they use, but i believe Blind Melon was a household name in the US in the 1990's after No Rain so the guys would have better publicity... I would love to hear them record Tickled Pink and some of the other old demos, like Barbara said, Shannon's lyrics are so important and unique and these gems were never used... but then again there may have been good reason to not record them... damn im talking in circles!!!
But Shannon did not write all the songs so I would be just as pleased to hear new stuff from the new lineup... And they better come to Australia or else!!! lol
Anyhoons that's my input, hope you enjoyed it...

Here I am again. I can't stop logging on, just to look at that pic. It's just too good, to think that those boys will be making new music again soon. I'm so excited I could wet myself.

'suggest' has also another meaning in French, sorry Forgive my ignorance, but just out of curiosity what exactly is the other French meaning of 'suggest'? Charles or Barbara, maybe you can help...
