Love all three For My Friends is great, but i'm loving Harmful Belly "just to hear your scratchy voice" Probably not about shannon, but we can take from these songs whatever we want right? I transcribed the lyrics last night and I had wondered the same thing...if it was about Shannon. After transcribing it, I think it's a love song. Here are the lyrics (maybe not perfect...anyone can correct any mistakes I made) Scratch my eyes out for you Strap dynamite to my side Shed a carcass for you I'll empty out my soul I'm begging you just give me a chance Stick with my and we'll see the rest Oh I'm paralyzed I'll carve your name here in my chest Kill for you and nothing less I'll burn alive no second thoughts Just to hear your scratchy voice Rain is falling from your face Drink the rest it still remains on you It feels so good it starts to hurt Hurts so bad it starts to burn I'll frame your eyes here on my wall Feel your love when you are gone It makes me sad when you are sad I feel down when you are down Im begging you just give me a chance Stick with me and we'll see the rest Rain is falling from your face Drink the rest it still remains on you It feels so good it starts to hurt Hurts so bad it starts to burn Why would you ever change? It's a mystery Hell would finally come apart You would hurt and see You're the reason I came like I'm all worked up again Rain is falling from your face Drink the rest it still remains on you It feels so good it starts to hurt Hurts so bad it starts to burn

No problem...I like to do that anyway because it helps me learn the lyrics and know what they mean. I'm about to do the other two songs...I did Harmful Belly first because Barb it's her favorite so far and she had trouble understanding some of the lyrics. I think it's good to post them because there are so many Melonheads here who are from other countries and I don't want to take for granted that English is not everyone's first language.

For My Friends (again correct me if I made any mistakes)
"I remember we used to sit out back and drink into the mornin' light Always bummin' smokes and talkin' trash about the plans that we had Summer's come and gone and the winter needs a song And I guess I keep moving along in the ride that I have in my head Ride that I have in my head
Ooh we used to drop some pills and sing til we lose our voice (yeah) Chasin' our dreams we try to put 'em in a bag and save 'em for another day Oh I feel these memories are real Times you can't steal for the love that I have for my friends Love that I have for my friends
Oh, I just can't pretend I need you bad There ain't no other love I've ever had Soon you will find my heart It's a beat that will never stop It's the lonliest time apart (3,4)
Love that I have for my friends Love that I have for my friends Love that I have for my friends Love that I have for my friends"
....beautiful laughter........

Here is Make A Difference....I got everything but one part where I put . Someone please help me on this...it kind of sounds like he says "total rich" but I'm not sure that's right. It's driving me nuts that I can't figure it out. The lyrics to this song are INCREDIBLE! I absolutely love the message and I can really identify with the lyrics. I can't pick a fucking favorite. Glen's drumming blows me away in this song. I love the toms. I absolutely love Blind Melon!!! Make A Difference I've got peace on my mind a pistol full of insistence Enough blood to fill a lake, but does it make a difference? Tolerance was the sermon No matter how dubious The fundamental thinking just turned so malicious There's a few people spinning gold Some just try to save their soul But I wonder what to do Money bills and secret guns I know i can't help everyone But I can take on one or two That's what I'll do Ive got to pick a god so many of them to witness Did I follow the right one? Does it make a difference? Inside there's a substance Fuel for my pennance The whole world is hurtin' bad Can i make a difference? There's a few people spinnin' gold Some just try to save their soul But I wonder what to do Money bills and secret guns I know i can't help everyone But I can take on one or two That's what I'll do It's beautiful in the world It's beautiful in the world yeah (kickass fucking solo and Glen ROCKS the drums!) A few people spinnin' gold Some just try to save their soul But I wonder what to do Money bills and secret guns I know i can't help everyone But I can take on one or two That's what I'll do

I can't believe we're all here talking and comparing notes and thoughts about new Blind Melon songs. It's just something none of us thought would happen.

Woke up this morning and thought the new songs were just a dream. Thank God they weren't.

its a toss up between harmful belly and for my friends -- for my friends gives me the old school vibe that the blind melon of old used to--

Regarding who wrote the songs, Harmful Belly is a Travis song from what I can tell. I think he had it on his myspace a while back. I think Make a Difference might be a leftover Unified Theory song but I could be wrong. I was at UT's last gig they played before the break up and I swear I heard that song. In the end we all know that any Blind Melon song was written by Blind Melon as one .
