Something like that would be cool... I don't want to walk around for the first three hours saying, "Do I know you? Who are you? I'm Charity! Are you on the Forum?" and blah blah blah. I still love it that we're all excitedly making our plans for something that's almost a year away... it definitely lets me feel less guilty about my obsessiveness. We could meet somewhere before going to the cemetary..A cafe,bar,anywhere..Just a thought...... Hehe,i know Charity...But now it`s ok to make plans and be really exited because it`s "only" a year away..Many of us have been planning more or less for years already.

I'm so glad to hear that everyone finds this as exciting as i do!! Although i started this thread and was one of the most excited people in the world whne i was thinking about camping at this vigil it seems my prioritys and focus have been turned to my wonderful wife who is now pregnant with our first child, therefore i cannot make it this year but i will be with you all in thoughts on the day of the vigil. there is also plans to name the baby shannon if it is a boy. so i hope you all have a great time, and sing a song and drink for me:D well until next time. Hey, that's the beauty of the name Shannon-- it could be a boy OR a girl name!

It's great that you have a new life to celebrate. Naming a child after Shannon is as great of a tribute as going to the vigil.

Here's a question for any of you who've made it over that way.... How big exactly is Lafayette? I'm asking because I had always heard it described as a very, very small town... then I Google-Earthed it one day, and it didn't look so small to me. Maybe it's just because I have a different definition of a "small" town than others, or maybe I was mistaken on something... What can my melons tell me on the subject?

Small town may not represent size, but size vs population of said town. population in July 2005: 60,459 Land area: 20.1 square miles Take the basic sell out crowd of The SuperDome, and spread it across 20 square miles. You have a small town that lies in a large land area Or, better yet, and probably more accurate, take 30,000 of those people, and place them in a specific area, thats lets say, 3-5 square miles, you then have another 30,000 spread out around the remaining 15 or so square miles. Either way Hope I explained that ok

Its funny you ask this b/c to me it's is deffinately a small town, it has that feel you know? Then at the last vigil I attended I had all these locals giving me really funny looks and calling me crazy b/c I said it was a small town? I guess it depends where you come from... It's a town in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by cornfields about an hour or so from Indianapolis.. But somehow it doesnt seem like it would be so bad to live there at all.. or maybe it's just cause Im only there when the city is filled with melonheads

Are any of the locals bothered during the vigil?..Im asking because last summer i went to to a festival in a really small town here in sweden and you could see that the locals there didn`t like us.We were there to destroy and riot and fight in their eyes,we were hooligans basically..What i`ve heard that the Melons who attend the vigil like to party when they are in Lafayette,so has there been any confrontation(is that the right word?) between Melonheads and locals of Lafayette?

Okay, I understand. I consider a "small" town to be about the size of my own, which is about 3000 people-- or the nearby town I grew up in, with about 200. The closest town with a mall and Wal-Mart and all the conveniences is Mt. Vernon. It's a bigger town, in my mind, because it has something like 17,000 people. I would never want to live there, because it's WAY too big. So 60,000 people, or even 30,000, is the big city for me! I'd be totally scared to drive or anything. We have just one stoplight in Nashville-- I can't handle more!

Btw, as for making the weekend longer.. I certainly agree, but I'd recommend just get there earlier in the week. It's nice b/c you get some alone time with Shannon and you also get all the excitement of seeing the hotel fill with melonheads, little by little. In 04 Emma, Kiwi and I stayed til Tuesday afternoon, and let me tell you it was soooooo depressing. I dont know, just seeing everyone leave and then seeing the grave all empty and with left over candlewax and all the glitter on the floor... Saying goodbye to everyone is so hard too! I think it's just better to get there early and leave with everyone... Unless you have a really big group and plenty of alcohol to keep you happy, lol I agree with everything Gab just said. Go earlier as opposed to staying longer after. You'll get more time with Shannon alone, and it's so beautiful and peaceful particularly in the evening. As for the hotel, everyone knows I'm kindof a hotel snob, and I don't know how you are, but if you're big on CLEAN, the Knight's Inn may not be for you. I know all the Melons stay there, but I can go visit without having to sleep with the cockaroches. LOL! No, I'm not a snot. I just like CLEAN. Personally, I'd rather sleep at the grave than at the Knight's Inn. It's cheaper AND cleaner. LOL Plus Shannon is there!

I'm from Indiana, 84 miles away from Lafayette. Lafayette is a college town, so there are often events occuring during the time of the Vigil. For example, this last year (2006), was the Purdue Homecoming game, which made it impossible nearly to find a hotel (except at the friggin' Knights Inn LOL). So if you ARE going to get a room, I would recommend booking it well in advance just in case. I've already booked my room for April, come to think of it.

Tonya, are you serious about the cockaroches in Knights Inn? I'm not a clean maniac at all but I HATE cockaroches! So if you're not kidding I'll definitely try to find another place to stay. And just go party there, lol.

Barb:
I'm VERY serious about the filthiness of the Knight's Inn. Whether or not there are cockroaches I don't honestly know. What I do know is that I've been in that place enough times to know it's filthy and I could never go to sleep there. To party is fine. But I take a hotel room across the street at the Homewood Suites. You can see the pics on my myspace slideshow from this year's Vigil.
Now some people have no problem with the Knight's Inn at all and they think I'm a little nutty about it. But I tell you I've seen the bare mattresses there and it's NOTHING I would wish my worst enemy to sleep on. Let alone a Melon. Or myself.
Also Barb, I live so close. Keep that in mind because you are coming from sooooooooooooooooooooo far away that you'll want to stay for awhile, innit?? You're more than welcome to stay at my house for as long as you like before and/or after and see what Chicago's all about.
xoxo T

Awww thanks Tonya!
When I come, I want indeed stay longer in the states and travel around a little. Right now it's really early to say what I'll do cause my dream is one thing and reality another...but basicaly I do want to stay longer in the states when I come cause like you said - I'll come from faaaaar away and I've never been there and always wanted to go...so I want to do "all in one". Although the vigil is definitely THE reason I want to go of course! And the shows too. But damn, I have no idea how I could make all this...vigil, shows, travel...except if...I get rich by september 2007? lol Actualy for now I'll be happy if I even make it this year. I talk too much now.
Anyways, about Knights Inn, I guarantee you, you'd never belive in what places I lived in Paris! One of them especialy. It was something you just can't belive. The room was ok (cause I cleaned it myself of course) but the toilets and showers were public and it was the WORST public toilet/showers I've EVER seen! And I lived in quite some university homes before. You wouldn't belive this was in Paris. Once when I was in the bathroom an african came in and looked around and said "even in Africa it's not like this" lol. I better not go into details but it was HORRIBLE!!!
What I want to say with all this rambling is that if the price is much lower than in other hotels I'd accept bad conditions (but not cockroaches) cause I'd know it would be only for a few days and basicaly just to sleep there.
But an offer to stay with a melon is even better of course #smileyhug#
