I never said Travis was a tribute singer, I think the guy is amazing and I will be following his career intently to see what amazing music he creates. I also never said the band should hang it up, I just would prefer to see them create something completely NEW and let the Blind Melon material stand on its own. I also believe they would have a better chance at success if they were out from under the stigma of a reformed BM. People here in this forum seem to forget that there is a whole world out there and if you really listen to what the "outsiders" think of the situation you might understand what I mean. Fact is there are not enough die-hard melonheads to support a career, you will need the masses to keep it going. Comparing Journey to Blind Melon is just plain blasphemy and rediculous, not even going to comment on that. Sure many bands replace members but rarely one of their principle songwriters (not to mention Shannon was more than your average frontman). Regarding AIC, well I always though Cantrell was the real talent in that band, even I can do a fair impression of Layne's singing. I shouldn't really comment on AIC since I am not a huge fan, they put out some great stuff but most of it I just can't relate to since it's too damn depressing. I will argue with the fact you consider my opinion negative or pessimistic. On the contrary, it is the total opposite, I think the remaining four members have amazing potential to continue on and make incredible music. I just disagree with some of you on how to go about it. I thought FMF was a solid release but I also thought UT, AJ, EV etc. had some great material. I just think continuing to go on as Blind Melon after Travis is hypocritical to what the band members said about the reformation.
I love this forum, and I have been around BM message boards for many, many years. The only thing I don't like here is people seem unable to have legitimate discussions without being accused of being negative if their opinion is slightly different than some. I understand the very nature of this forum is going to be biased but I really think if people here look at things from a more objective perspective they would see it for what it really is.
A little story to illustrate my point; recently my company hired a new guy. We share an office and as we were getting to know each other music inevitably came up as a topic. I of course started to discuss Melon and his first words were "Nico was a great disc", so I knew I was talking to someone who had more than a "No Rain" knowledge of the band. I told him about the reformation and gave him some of Travis' songs to listen to, he of course enjoyed it. When I told him about Travis leaving and that they were going to try to find another new singer he just rolled his eyes. Oddly enough my wife had the same reaction when I told her. I am willing to bet that is going to be the reaction of most people.
Anyway, I've said my peace on the subject, I wish everyone the best for the future.

i just hope it doesn't take another long time to find a singer. going to a melon show is something i don't wanna wait long for. life is better when melon is on tour. as i stated awhile back, i hope they find a dreaded out hippy tour kid to sing with them. the lyrics can be earthy and we can get back to being a jam band.

Answer: I love Blind Melon, simple. Thank you so much for your pity and your armchair psychology, now I can save the money I was going to spend on therapy to make myself happy. Seriously, if you read my posts, not once did I put anyone down (except maybe Journey, but the fact is other than both being bands that create music they don't have much in common with Blind Melon or their history). Seems like YOU are the one who feels the need to put me down with your pity and accusations of arrogance. Since you seem to have an interest in psychology, look up the concept of projection...OK, now my sarcasm is coming off a bit arrogant, but I couldn't resist. You have proven my point exactly about this forum, God forbid anyone have a different opinion. Not once have I put anyone or anyone's opinion down, I just stated MY thoughts and feelings. If you feel differently than I do, so be it. According to you, stating my opinion must mean I am arrogant and since my opinion is different than yours it must be negative, OK whatever. I think there are positive things for the future of the remaining guys, I just don't think it lies with a new singer. If you stilll feel the need to attack me or want to have an honest debate then please take it to PMs. Forcing me to defend myself in the public forum is truly the only "negativity" in this discussion.

I am sick of all this. It is making people focus on anything but the music. Is not the music why we are here (in my Yoda voice)?
Well, it is done with Travis. We now know that.
I say if there is anything left from their time with Travis, music wise, release it. ASAP if possible. Get some more new music out there. Let music heal the wounds. Get a DVD out. Pull something from the archives. Continue to promote in those ways. I would not let the fan base that that has supported the reformation, erode anymore then what is happening now.
My two cents.
Remember, it's really about the music. Thankfully, once giveth, it cannot be taketh away.
Peace

Just an idea.... RockStar Blind Melon. I know I'd watch The band once commented on this saying they wouldn't go to reality tv to find a singer. I too would watch this and it would certainly sell more records, but the "reality" of the situation is that Rockstar INXS didn't pan out more than 1 record and Rockstar Supernova have already split up...again, after 1 record. The show was fun to watch though...I must admit!

hehe i said Rockstar Blind Melon at the first go round about Travis leaving, and it wasnt met with good enthusiasm. Really, i would watch, but i dont want it to become that. And i loved watching them because i got to see some new talented singers. REGARDLESS of WHAT they were made to sing. I still absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE Jordis Unga and her voice. I didnt want her to win, because i didnt want her to sing for INXS. that aside..... on another point made.... WHY THE HELL would they change the name?? as stated by Heidiann.... its the same 4 guys from yesteryear.... that horse has been beaten a thousand times. MANY bands have lost people in the band, and CONTINUE ON with the same name. A point mentioned above was saying it was hypocrytical of the band and what they've said about the reformation. ? i'm not sure i know to WHAT you are referring. I heard them say thank you to Travis MANY MANY MANY times for pulling this band back together and sparking them to make new music. that doesnt mean that IF/WHEN travis left or was let go that they wouldnt KEEP ON MAKING MUSIC TOGETHER. it brought them to a point that they LOVED playing together again... and playing BLIND MELON stuff together, and seeing fans reactions, and feeling the love that is shared EACH AND EVERY time they take that stage. Travis was a catalyst in that.... and it seems they may have liked being BLIND MELON again. So to change the name, and perform blind melon songs would make them their "own cover band"... which is NOT what they wanted. Then came Chris Shinn into all of this. From what Rogers said, they LOVED working and playing with Chris. But when he heard him sing... it wasnt BLIND MELON. so... OBVIOUSLY they want someone that can pull off the BLIND MELON songs to continue as BLIND MELON, and keep playing BLIND MELON songs. Otherwise... snatch Chris up and work on new stuff and then change the name and go make wonderful music. But OBVIOUSLY that wasnt the direction they wanted to go. they seem to want to make new music yes....as BLIND MELON, and continue playing the blind melon catalog too@! I agree, theres been a lot of negativity on here.... and its gotten to where its ridiculous to think that someone cant have their own opinion, or that if it isnt shared by {you} then its just plain wrong. I see a LOT of people that used to post DAILY... that dont even post anymore. And even then... when an OFFICIAL WORD is handed out.... it seems nobody is STILL happy. so... in the words of my man RICKY NELSON "you... cant please everyone so ya.... got ta' please yourself" more ramblings later.....

I don't remember which member of the band told me, but I do believe there was a reality show offer... and, as Yves said, the band wouldn't do that.
And, just to get back on track, can we PLEASE try not to argue? If you have a problem with someone, take it to PMs. I really don't understand why people can't understand that. It's one of the reasons why Proboards has the "Private Message" option.

I personally don't have a problem with people having different opinions to mine as long as they are presented in a manner that is not offensive. Calling people names is unproductive and we are here to support the band. Opinions are like assholes...everybody has one!

I would just like to say to Rogers, Brad, Glen, and Christopher that I feel so bad for you guys, to have to go through this shit. You all look like you really enjoy playing and I know you'll find a way to continue, with whomever you guys choose as the best fit for you. Blind Melon may not have the largest fan base or the most popular, or politically correct, but I do believe you guys have the most LOYAL fans. If you guys wanted to just play without anyone singing, I would stand there and watch. (Well, and dance) Here's to hoping I get to see you in concert someday! Peace and Love to you and your familys.

After reading the book and hearing about the drama surrounding the last few months of the band with Shannon I mean the royalty issues with no rain, issues with shannon's estate, Money, the in fighting, and whatnot, I mean genuine bad blood. None of the last few months has surprised me at all. To tell you the truth I am very very sad AND utterly disgusted. I will support them obviously in whatever they do but I am getting very tired... I have seen Sparticle and Unified live. NOTHING ever came close to Melon...
