Good luck to both Blind Melon and Travis. I am glad to hear the official word so i can let it rest and move on. Thank you Brad, Chris, Rogers, Glen, and Travis for two amazing years that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Your music has helped me through some dark times and I will be forever grateful for that. I look forward to Travis' solo album and hope that Blind Melon find another singer. Thanks again for everything!!!

To the band...I'm also sad to hear that Travis is moving on. I saw 3 of your shows with him, and all I can say is it was a gift to see you all live, playing together again. Keep searching for the next singer to bring in that next flavor of Melon.
To the BM "purists"...this band should never hang it up. After all they've been through and their recent resurrection with Travis, certainly there is another singer out there who compliments the band and can carry on their commitment to their music and their fans.
I love you guys and wish you all the best.

Why is it that I feel more loyalty to Travis at crucial junctures such as these? No one is going to be able to fill those shoes and the responsibility and burden they call for. These guys had a once in a lifetime shot turned into a twice in a lifetime. The notion that they might expect a third at this point is ludicrous? Two amazingly dynamic, truly majestic singers. I was fully in favor of Travis, but if Travis isn't involved I hope they can just accept the notion that it's time to move on. I'm glad Chris Shinn moved on to exploring his own worthy pursuits instead of putting all his eggs in this basket only to get them broken. It would be devastating to see the other members of Blind Melon drag him through this type of heartbreak and discourse. Whatever music you all make will truly be from all your hearts with amazing results. We all know that. It seems only appropriate, that this moment is calling for, you all to move past these unfortunate events and become something different. Choosing a different name only seems fitting now.
Peace. Love. Prosperous new beginnings.

well, im just glad to hear that they anticipate a new B L I N D M E L O N album.....its great to have this forum to remember blind melon's past and of course to keep shannon close to us all, but as far as wishing that blind melon would R.I.P....i dont get that....i like talkin about blind melon in the present....i like talkin about blind melon in the future.....so i mean, this is the blind melon forum....not the band formerly known as blind melon...now known as ....whatever forum!!! i wish chris shinn would be the next singer.. i love him...but if the band doesnt agree, then, i hope they can find someone they feel will really fit the blind melon sound....things are always changing and evolving......the sound may be a little different or go a different direction....but as long as those 4 guys are together, its blind melon to me. Cali blue and sky posted a youtube clip of a guy, cant remember his name, but he was really great, someone that, in my opinion should be considered...peace

I think it is time to let Blind Melon rest in peace. The past two years with Travis were a great tribute to the music and it allowed us to hear the songs live one more time. Bringing in a third singer seems so cheap and cheesy. NO band is legit with a revolving front man, that’s just silly. They should put out a final box set including the recent doc footage and other tidbits and leave it at that. Those who think they should move on will think so no matter what, they are blinded by their obsession, but they are also in the minority (except maybe on this forum). The only time they should play the old songs again is at the vigil each year, which would be a fitting tribute.
I am all for the remaining members moving on together to create something NEW. I’d love to see a side project with Shinn, let the fans be the judge of the result.

If you write something you are proud of, and find a few people that WANT to help you play those songs for people who enjoy them... I say, feel free. It's no one else's decision.
Or, should the writer just stop sharing the classics? The classics that are presented to us everyday? The songs people cover, day after day? Should the writers turn their back on the songs they wrote, and just let them be? Or should they, after time, bring a little new life to those songs and share them with the fans?
Sharing is good.

I'm going to take the high road and merely say that this band has been a part of my life for 16 years through the lowest points and the highest. Alot of people on this forum (likely cessna) are barely older than that. I am frighteningly normal...not a stalker. Geez...people take everything so damn literally. Thank you Melondew... #hoonsmiley#

Please tell me you are kidding? That is sad that you call a band your life...these guys are just human beings everyone there is no reason to put them on such a pedistal. Sure they are great drummers..or guitar players...or lyricists...whatever...but they are human just like you and me. It's one thing to praise and adore the music but to call them "your life" is a bit stalkerish... That said...I really hope they just drop the Blind Melon thing and start a new band...new name...new direction...just NEW...no other word to describe it...NEW! I'm sorry you think that, but for alot of people here Blind Melon/Shannon Hoon have saved our lives, We wouldnt be here if it wasnt for this band. I think its kinda rude you would judge someone that way. Oh wait guess what BLIND MELON IS MY LIFE! And if thats a stalkerish thing, im guility, but i think i owe blind melon my life after as many times as they have saven it. I'm sure alot of people would say the same thing. Now i agree with the last thing you said. I hope the guys countue to make new music and keep touring, BUT I think the name Blind Melon, with repects to Shannon Hoon, and Travis Warren, and us Blind Melon fans should just be put to rest. All of us will still follow the band under a different name. I think its just time to retire the name, but not the guys who play music in it..

I’d love to see a side project with Shinn, let the fans be the judge of the result. Travis Warren was NOT a tribute singer, as he was a big part in their latest CD of NEW material. A tribute singer would not have participated in the creation of something new, only covered the old. How could it be ludicrous for them to find another lead singer? Journey now has a new front man/lead singer who sounds exactly like Steve Perry, they are out touring again. Red Hot Chili Peppers had at least 4 separate band member switches over the years, Alice In Chains also just found a new singer and are out touring, and even Stone Temple Pilots had a guy step in and do the song "Big Bang Baby". The Deftones had several bass players before finding a permanent one. It is a pretty common occurrence in the music industry for people to move on, or change bands frequently. It's more unlikely for a band to be able to keep a core group, as Blind Melon has, than you might think. If you don't believe me, read the band biographies as you listen to music on any free internet radio site. It is ridiculous to say they should ever just hang it up because they need to replace someone. Do you think if you walked off your job that they'd find it impossible to replace you? There are few times in life that any of us are truly irreplaceable, which is not to say that we wouldn't be missed, but just that someone else can always step up to the plate. Right now they need encouragement, support, and SINGER SUBMISSIONS, not negativity, and defeatist attitudes.

You've got 4 extremely talented musicians that want to continue to make beautiful music together, 4 original band members. I think this is the most fabulous news I've heard in a while. I think it's a bit early in the game to be discussing what their name should be. This is just my opinion....but you have 4 out 5 original band members....why would they record and tour under a different name. If we would have lost a different band member....would we be discussing the name change? My husband's band just replaced a band member....but the name is still the same. The music even changed.......not totally.....but they aren't the same people they were 10 years ago....they have matured. Ok...maybe not matured....but sobered up. They just are going a different direction, and to quote my hubby "finally getting back to what made him want to play music in the first place." I get everyone's different points but I'm just stating my opinion based on what I see here at home.

BM,
Stay together through this .... The music you produce is TOO GOOD! It's too bad it didn't work out with Travis ... he was/is talented and For My Friends was a great, great album.
I'll be there the day the next album is released ... buying it at the store and listening to it immediately in the parking lot.

ok, i found the guy i was talkin about...bob hilbrich..everyone here may have already seen and heard him, i dont know, but i think he really has the whole melon vibe goin on...his voice seems a little lower than shannons and travis's, i dont know how that would work out on some of the old song...which definitely should always be played...(side note...can you imagine going to a melon concert and not hearing change??? even going to a concert with the 4 guys from blind melon now known as whatever and not hearing change? ) but i really like the the tone and think he has just the right amount of scratchiness i think with some help from the band, he could really be a great new start for blind melon....doesnt really sound like travis or shannon, which i think is good for a new start, but is very melonesque and original sounding...i, like heidi am very excited about this.....id love to see who everybody else on here thinks would be a good fit....its up to the band of course, but i think sharing some of these talents is good fun and might give the band a little nudge or insight into the particular direction they see the band going #sunsmilie# #sunsmilie# #sunsmilie# #sunsmilie# #sunsmilie# #sunsmilie# #sunsmilie# #sunsmilie# #sunsmilie# #sunsmilie# #sunsmilie# #sunsmilie# #sunsmilie# #sunsmilie#
