Never was a diehard Alice fan, but dug almost everything I heard. I do own the Unplugged DVD, and pull it out occasionally. Layne looks fucked. just my 2 cents. I heard that check my brain for the first time the other day. sick good. I love that groove, and to be completely honest I thought DuVall sounded exactly like Layne.

I had a dream last night that Chris Robinson was the new singer. We were all at a show, and the band played 2x4 then played 2 Zeppelin tunes (Thank You and Ten Years Gone). Then, they finished with a new tune. Weird.. I remember being able to sing the words to the new tune... I remember Mere and I were singing along with the song, and Chris put the mic out towards us, and Mere and I sung part of the song. "She likes to break down" was the only line I remember. No stealing the line! I may use it. lol

Well you can't call it Blind Melon with out doing the old tunes.. Travis could really pull them off well. Remember they got cut short of pushing Soup. Would anyone have noticed they were playing again if they had changed the name? Besides the band grew in musical knowledge and talent since the 90's. So to expect the same sound would not be fair. I think they should hire a new singer and call it something else , now that they have everyones attention it would be no problem to start fresh. It dosen't have to be a singer that can hit all the high notes. Just someone that can vibe with the band. Maybee we need to tell them that we don't care if they do the old songs. That we love them anyway they want to bring it. But look at the myspace posts , when fans were posting PLEASE POST NO RAIN ON THE PLAYER... Like it was the only song they ever heard. It breaks my heart to see this band get put into a box by the public and you know why. I imagine it isn't easy for the band to break away from the fame they once had. But i also think they could start fresh and do something great. How could they not? Everything they have ever done is great, even the solo stuff and unified theory. It's all good to me.
With love and respect

Good day to you all.... Given our recent convoluted history and taking into consideration all the questions we've been receiving about our status, now seems like a good time for a State of the Melon address. As we previously mentioned, our New Year's Eve show in Detroit was the final show with Travis. We're continuing our search to find a singer that fits the band. If you know anybody who's great, have 'em send an mp3 to: blindmelonsinger@gmail.com. All future shows, including the tour in Japan are being put on hold until we find a singer who can help us move forward with a new record. We are all writing new songs now with the anticipation of releasing a new album as soon as we can find a piece to fit our puzzle. We'll let you know when things get rolling........Thanks to you all! B. Melon Id sing for you guys in a heartbeat...... I have 20 years of notebooks stacked. I aint no spring 'shicken, either. No kids...dont bother looking for young cats...

The only real problem I had with For My Friends was that the lyrical content just didn't seem to fit--with a few exceptions. There were a couple of tracks I would have put on my personal favorites list--for example Father Time and With The Right Set of Eyes. But to me the one glaring thing that was missing was Shannon's sense of humor. I doubt any new singer can be found that will write songs like "Skinned" and "Hell".
Another issue I had was the big question of why nobody bothered to record fully produced versions of all those unreleased demos recorded with Shannon--i.e. "Mother" "Rebirth" "What You Lost" and "Tickled Pink". I'd be willing to bet there are even more of them lying around somewhere--probably a whole album's worth. I think it would be a lot easier for the skeptics to accept a new album if they knew Shannon had written at least some of the lyrical content.

Personally, i loved For My Friends. I've been a melonhead for years and years...Its hard to believe i first head u guys back almost 15 years ago. And yes, no rain was the first melon song i heard, but the sound was so amazing i was just hooked. and have since bought all of the melon cds, sometimes more than once. I loved Travis as the singer, and am just really wondering why he left? i havent been able to find a reason why, and i dont wanna read hours and hours of the forums here to see if i can find out. if anyone knows for certain plz message me and let me know. Also, i dont think i can hit the notes that the late, great shannon or even travis could hit, but would love to try out for the band. Ill get some samples together and email em to ya and hopefully you will like them. But For my Friends was a very well put together, and beautifully written album. There are songs on there that made me really reflect and some that even made me cry. Please guys keep up the awesome music, and whether the melon name carries on or not, us diehards will always support everything you do! Remember do music for what makes u feel good, what you love, and who you are! i love you guys and hope u get a new singer soon and am dyin to see u all play live again. thanks for all the memories made, and the many more i hope to see come!

I like the slick, rolling guitar of the original blind melon. Seemed to be missing. Listen to Paper Scratcher, 2x4 or Pull for examples of the guitar and how no one else plays music like this <<. Rick Parasher and Andy Wallace don't get enough credit for producing great tracks with great musicians.

Rick Parasher and Andy Wallace don't get enough credit for producing great tracks with great musicians. I think a major problem with the disc is the mastering, the production was great (Chris and Brad know how to capture a band) but they mastered this thing waaaay too hot... It butchered any subtlety in the production, and ruined dynamics and cohesion in the instruments EVERYTHING WAS JUST LOUD ALL THE TIME LIKE THE DISC WAS YELLING AT YOU (The same goes for the Unified Theory disc, actually the UT disc was even louder). Modern mastering techiques are a bitch.... And they'll never effectively acheive that "Melon Sound" without easing off on the compression and limiting.. If only they'd released FMF on vinyl Songwise however, FMF was pretty good, some of the lyrics were a bit clunky... However there were some bright moments (Father Time (some cringy lyrics, but beautiful, especially the guitar work), So High (Excellent, maybe the closest to the sound of the past, could have fit on either of the other Melon albums), Wishing Well (great, save the "frown" line), Make a Difference was excellent, as was the title track (I could go on listing each track, but meh).
