im not a huge batman fan, but i really liked this one. mainly because it was darker, and obviously because of heath ledger's performance. I had been reading up on how he transformed himself for this role before he died, and i was excited. Overall, i give the movie an 8, Ledger a 10. His performance is leaps and bounds above Nicholson's. He was more comical. TDK Joker was fearless, he took pleasure in catastrophe, and he pulled it off quite well.

You know what. Jack Nicholson's Joker will never be topped in my opinion, and I really don't give a shit about how unpopular of an opinion that is right now.

Very well said... what he has, and Ledger lacks, is natural charisma... Jack IS the Joker, in real life too... Ledger is a carefully constructed character, an act, a brilliant one i might add, where Nicholson has natural Joker attributes... and that is why Nicholson will never be topped...

of all the places in the world for such comparison, this i would think would be the worst. i loved the movie all around. maybe there is too much nicholson vs. ledger talk killing this movie. i know i was tired of the hoon vs. warren debate before it ever started. mr. t was katie holmes replacement. nobody wants to compare those role reversals though. i figured i would focus more on that, rather than the joker debate.

I thought Heath Ledger was brilliant as the joker. It made the movie for me. He was so interesting and complex. You almost loved the character, you wanted to understand him. I love the part in the hospital...not to spoil anything here.....but nurse joker was hilarious!
In the meantime I wasn't impressed with Christian Bale's performance. What is up with his voice changes, its kinda dorky.

It is hard to compare the two. For me, Ledger's Joker made the movie. I couldn't wait for the next scene with him in it. Matter of fact I heard complaints that he wasn't in it enough. It is hard for me to compare Nicholson's version because I loved his portrayal as well. He was the best part of the original Batman, hell he was the best part of that entire series minus the George Clooney nipple suit Batman...lol

I saw this movie yesterday. I'm not much of a movie critic, but I enjoyed watching the film. My favorite parts were when the Joker was on screen too. He was a very interesting character to watch unfold and try to understand. And I agree with the voice changes, Mere. Yes, I DO understand that Batman should have a raspy voice but some parts were kind of ridiculous and it took my attention away from the film at some points.

lol @ the voice changes.... I actually said "i know batman is pretty damned old by now... but i didnt know they were casting Clint Eastwood!"
LOVED the show, and though it was long... it did move smoothly along. I thought the Joker was done extremely well. more of the dark, sick, and twisted side as mentioned above. rather than the HEE HEE hA HA psycho of Nicholson's
loved it. watched it again @ home online last night. (shhhh dont tell !)

I watched it yesterday, and loved it. And yeah, I also agree that Heath played the Joker extremely well. I completely agree with you on the Joker, Meredith; although to be honest I didn't notice Christian Bale's voice changes. I guess I'll have to do the same thing as twiztid3
