I LOVE that song! Here is a great video of Elliott performing it. ;D I read somewhere that the song is supposed to be written from the perspective of the beer bottle talking to the person drinking it. Here are the lyrics, read them and think about them being written from the perspective of the beer bottle. Pretty cool! ;D Some of my other favorites from Either/Or are Alameda, Angeles, 2:45am, and Say Yes.

I had NO idea he was this good at piano... Here's a nice one of him doing Miss Misery solo at the piano I love this vid of Angeles I'll post some more later. ;D

i fell asleep doing this lol i also love that video of him doing angles it's breath taking I love the performance he did at the 1998 Oscars of Miss misery you can tell he was a little nervous. i read he didn't want to do it and the only reason he did was cause he didn't want anyone else doing his song. it's not the best quality but it's the only one with out the other performers this is him doing a cover of jealous guy by john lennon, my mom is a huge lennon fan so i grew up on this stuff i showed her she thought he did a beautiful cover. i couldn't agree more Say yes.... He talks a little in the end it's pretty funny and Angles he fucks up on this one but picks up and keep going also funny. actually one of my favorites Ok well thats all for now i could be here all day with the amount of stuff i saved just last night and i should be getting ready to go to work.

By the way...I was listening to satellite radio today and Minnie Driver (actress from Good Will Hunting) was deejaying her own selected playlist. She played Elliott's "Waltz #2" and I freaked out! That's the first time I've heard his music played on Sirius. Before the song, she said that she had spent a lot of time with him during the filming of Good Will Hunting since he was working on writing songs for the movie. She didn't have a lot of details, but she just mentioned that she hung out with him quite a bit and that he was a very bright and wonderful man. She said she has a hard time listening to him now because it makes her really sad to think that he is gone. I thought it was pretty interesting...I feel like I lucked into hearing that because I was only in the car for 10 minutes and I just happened to hear it. Today is the first time I've even listened to Sirius in a really long time because Elliott Smith cd's have been pretty much taken over as the only thing I've listened to in the car for the past couple of months!

Hello fellow Elliot Smith lovers. During these past few months I have morphed into quite a fan of Mr. Elliot Smith.
I've been reading the lyrics for Stupidity Tries over and over. There's something about that song that is really special. I've been trying to comprehend the song as a whole, but it is just not getting through my head. Each individual line, or group of line's in this song are brilliant. I'm just interested in how you guys interpret this song.
Got a foot in the door God knows what for And it'll cut me down to size Stupidity tries Everything here is free Everything but you and me This painting never dries Stupidity tries Savannah shoulder Raised a cheer Coloring the sky with ash Because they found some privateer To sail across the sea of trash The enemy is within Don't confuse me with him The truth is otherwise Stupidity tries And so I go from floor to floor Looking for a port of call Another drunk conquistador Conquering the governor's ball I couldn't think of a thing That I hope tomorrow brings Oh, what a surprise Stupidity tries
One of my favorite songs of his for sure.

Elliot Smith amazes me. Anyone else out there think his girlfriend was responsible for his death? Who goes to the kitchen and stabs themselves during an argument while shes in the bathroom??? If he wanted to be venomous he'd stab himself infront of her, to her face. Plus i think its physically impossible to stab yourself in the heart twice.
I dont think her story adds up. Her coincidently being in the bathroom when it happened is a cheap alaby.

I don't think it adds up either. The coroner ruled it as suspicious. I honestly think the police should have looked into it further.
Another thing that bothers me is this...I've see the coroners report and there were what appeared to be fresh defense wounds on the backs of his forearms and his hand. These wounds were consistent with where you might be wounded if someone was coming at you with a knife and you were trying to stop them by putting your hands up in self defense.
When I looked at that coroner's report I felt ill.
I really don't know what happened, but I don't think it's any secret that there is more to the story. It breaks my heart that he's gone and it's maddening to think that she may be getting away with murder.

Now that you've said that i think she has got away with murder. She sounds like an evil bitch to me. I mean even if it was out of anger and she wasn't mean to kill him.... ...If that was me, i'd own up to what REALLY happened straight away. At least the court would be lighter on me If thats what shes scared of.
Anyhoons I believe in karma And her past will come back to bite her on the arse one day i guess.
