I think I understand what both of you are saying and I'm glad this conversation is happening. It's best that it can be a conversation rather than a debate or an argument. On a similar note, I've been wondering lately how Travis feels when/if he reads any of this. It seems like this board can be a shrine to Shannon at times. It even seems a bit fanatically morbid at times. I never had any spiritual connection to Shannon or deep "love" for him necessarily, but I've always thought fondly of him and I hate that he is not around any more. A tragic loss indeed. For me, welcoming and celebrating Travis's contributions while acknowledging Shannon's unmistakable contribution is where I'm headed. Blind Melon wouldn't be what it is today without Shannon, and they wouldn't be touring today without Travis. I think there is some reluctance to celebrate Travis for fear of disrespecting Shannon. For my money, there's no better way to salute him than to rejoice in Blind Melon with 4 of his best friends and delight as a fan.

Well said my friend; and the one thing I never lose sight of and that really excites me about the band being back, is the fact you still have four of some of the greatest musicians in the world I think playing together again.

Very nice(and long)post and I appreciate what you are saying. And my best friend getting killed by a drunk driver out of nowhere was a shocking tragedy for me, and there have been several more in my life but I am not going to go into them all on here. As far as the band goes; I look to some of their interviews and they are at a point of peaceful calmness when openly discussing Shannon's life and death(and they knew him better than anyone on here), so all I was saying is that it is possible to grow and accept him being gone just like they seem to have. Sorry that post was so long. Its one of those subjects that cant be done justice in a paragraph or 2. Although my post was one giant paragraph. I just wanted to say grief is different for everyone. Through my own experiences I noticed people have a calloused mentality for the grieving process. Im ok why arent you? Before all of that happened I thought the same way. In a couple years Ill be ok. Not that it hasnt gotten better. But I think about it way more now than I thought I would have 11 years ago. I can talk about this peacefully and calmly also. But, really I would hate to be asked questions about what happened all the time. "so all I was saying is that it is possible to grow and accept him being gone just like they seem to have". Ok that makes sense. And I agree. I dont know if anything I just said made any sense im still waiting for the coffee to kick in. Need more.

Even though the odds are against them I think they can do it. Well....they are but, what I mean is it can last. I heard Harmful Belly the other day and they are definitely back.

However good Shannon was, he's not here today, which, brings me down at times because I did find him such an insperation, but when I heard Blind Melon where back I didnt know what to think without hearing them. I sort of expected the worst where I belived Shannon couldn't be replaced, and then when I heard them I still belived that Shannon can't be replaced, no one could replace him, but Travis isn't trying to replace him, I think Travis amazing! I think Shannon is amazing! I'm just glad they're back, still yet to see them live (I hate living in the UK) but I will, and I cant wait until I do!

As far as your "long paragraph" went, I had an Amen moment. I totally agreed with you. I think alot of people have had there own awful experiences, either deal with the pain to this day or at least remember those awful feelings at the time. And feeling those feelings, you can relate to other peoples experiences and pain. We may not have known Shannon. But, when you are passionate about music, sometimes you have your own little "connection". Which make it important to you. And it is sad. It is sad to see a young tatlented artist leave so quickly and so young. But.... On a happier note, it is awesome to have Travis now! The music goes on and we can celebrate a life that started something beautiful and now a new life that is keeping it going! Much Melon Love to you all! Heather #hoonsmiley#

Not to keep harping on the subject, I agree we have all had our losses, but what about those of us we have been helped through the worst times by Shannon and his music? I think it creates a strong love for an artist who can do that for you. If it wasn't a common phenomenon, there wouldn't be stalkers. Now they are the extreme, and there are people evreywhere in the middle. But I am biased, I personally feel that Shannon saved me through his own pain, thus saving me the same. He makes us feel he GOT IT. He understood. It's an amazing thing to behold!

I miss Shannon a lot. My birthday is two days after mine and when it comes around i think of him. To look back at some of his songs and how they gave a small view into his life it touches me. I tell people that the world has no idea what it has lost. To see the friendship he had with his band lifts my heart. I am glad the band is playing again the world needs them!!! when i openned the new CD and saw the inside cover and the dedication to thier friend i almost cried. My heart goes out to them for thier loss. There are so many things i could say about Shannon, enough to write a book, I am glad we all can lean on each other. From heaven I know Shannon is look upon his loyal friends, family and fans and is smiling with that special glint in his eye. WE LOVE YOU SHANNON ALWAYS !!!
