Saw them at WoodStock 94, wasn't gonna go but Melon was added a little later so me and my lil' brother got the registration for his car. Drove to Hamburg, NY got tickets and went had a great time. I had a ticket to the Cleveland show at the Odeon but was canceled for reasons you all know. I should have kept the ticket but I returned it and bought a ticket for Phish. Now that I think about it I would like to have that ticket. Though the Phish show was great and I was broke at the time.

Well 11 years ago I would be like 6 or 7 sooo seeing blind melon probably wouldn't have been very high on my to-do list (although it should have been damnit!)

Blind Melon's show at the Glen Miller Ballroom - October 17, 1995. I was there.
This was a great show. I had no idea they were playing in Boulder that day. I just happened to see an ad in a local paper and immediately bought tickets. My best friend and I went and before the show we saw Shannon briefly in the lobby. I said hi to him and he turned and smiled and waved. He looked like he was pretty high and out of it. That could have just been my perception but I know what it looks like. Anyway, the show was very good with the band sounding tight as opposed to many accounts at the time that the shows on this tour were going downhill. There were a few moments where the energy from Shannon seemed to drop severely and I felt concerned for him. In those moments I could feel the energy in the room drop too. Then in the next song he would spring back to life and give an inspiring performance. As good as the show was I still couldn't help but continue to feel like there was something wrong with Shannon that night. It stuck with me and when I heard he died a week later I flashed back to those moments where I could see him kinda drift off into what looked like melancholy and it made feel really sad for him. I was fortunate enough to meet a photography student who shot some great black and whites of the show and he was kind enough to make me some prints. I regret that I never got a copy of the best photo from that night. I bought a few prints intending to get the last one later and I just put it off for whatever reason. Luckily I had a copy of it from that same local paper that used it as an obituary photo. It's a shot of Shannon on his knees with both hands on the mic and he has his head raised as he sings. He's in this pool of light and it looks fantastic. It almost looks as if he's praying. If anyone happens to know a photographer named Mike Champion who took these shots please have him contact me at sombra517@yahoo.com. I would still love to get an actual print of that photo.
