Hello Melons, I am on vacation at the moment, and I am in New Orleans right now. I was thinking of going to the French Quarter to get a photo of Kingsway Studios. I know that the studio shut down or went out of business. But either way, I thought I would go get some pictures of where Blind Melon recorded 'Soup'. I am using my resources here to try and find out where that building is, but I haven't found the answer quite yet. Here is a screen capture of the French Quarter. Does anyone know where Kingsway Studios was? Sorry for the no-cropped image - I am away from my regular graphics programs. . . If I get some photos of where Kingsway Studios was, then I will definitely share them with all of you melons. . . . .

Alright, I did some more searching and it looks like Kingsway Studios was located at 544 Esplanade Avenue. I found this article that says that actor Nicolas Cage bought the building while he was married to Lisa Marie Presley, and that he has since sold it. Apparently he sold it because he thought that it might be haunted. (That's not too much of a stretch for any building in the Quarter). Here is a link to the article: www.ghosthounds.com/article-print-135.html

Ha! I'll repost this:
Kingsway Studios - Formerly located at the corner of Esplanade Ave. & Chartres St. (Edge of the French Quarters). New Orleans, LA. 70130. Former phone contact: (504) 561-1127
Opened in August 1990, Kingsway Studio, with its faded splendor, high ceilings, grand staircase, antique-filled guest rooms, Oriental rugs, religious iconography, flickering candles and perpetual twilight, matched the mystique of founder Daniel Lanois. Lanois has made his mark on the music industry working as an artist, composer, and producer.
The studio ran for nearly a decade, housing artists such as The Black Crowes, Afghan Whigs, The Tragically Hip, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Pearl Jam, Dave Pirner, Sheryl Crow, Midnight Oil, and (of course) Blind Melon.
After an unsuccessful effort to find a buyer who would continue to operate Kingsway as a studio, Lanois dismantled it in 2000. The building's remaining furnishings were sold at a garage sale the following January. Actor Nicolas Cage eventually bought the property.

Wow Ryan that is truly amazing, the pics are so cool and the house is so big and sumptuous! I love to see the balcony with the old rusty railing where Clinch took one of my favourite Shannon's photo. However thank you so much for sharing these wonderful pics, hope you're having a great time.

I was in Nola like 3 yrs ago and I stopped by Kingsway studio too.. It was so retarded b/c as soon as I got to New Orleans my stupid camera stopped working so I had to get one of those shittyass disposable ones... I have very few pics but I dont have a scanner anyway :/ Hope you're having a good time on your vacations, how's everything there, pretty damaged still?
