So I have SIRIUS radio in my jeep. I grew up in the 80's, so I occassionally listen to the channel "hair nation". It plays all the hair bands from the 80's. They play Skid Row quite often. Now I'm not a big Skid Row fan, but I do recognize that Sebastian Bach has got pipes. Am I crazy, or can anyone else picture him singing Blind Melon songs? I don't know if the personalities would clash within the band with him leading the vocals, but I think the man can sing, and I can totally imagine it. In my opinion, I think Sebastian would first hafta smoke a few bowls and get into the chill Melon vibe. But otherwise, I can picture it. Ok, now, am I crazy? If so, I'll duck when ya'll start throwing daggers at me....

I know he is. I've seen him on TV & those stupid reality shows. I just think he's got the pipes to do it. No worries, I was/am expecting daggers !!

I love Bach... He can seriously sing... He wasn't picked to be on Broadway for nothing... Singing Melon tunes? Nah... Not in this lifetime. Even Bach, at this point in his career, couldn't sing Melon's back catalogue. He's too "theater" .. if that makes sense... But, I'll be honest.. I'm a huge fan of his... and always will be. I read a comment about this video... Someone said that Bach shouldnt have used so much Vibrato. I agree that he may have over done it... But, who, in the entire Grunge era, used LOADS of Vibrato? Layne did..

Layne also had guts and heart. Sebastion Bach's whole schtick is contrived and unoriginal. That clip just sums it up. This one's for Layne huh bach. Then don't make it about you. He's like a damn Saturday night live skit. I saw him open for Kiss a couple of years ago. he a and Paul Stanley are so similar, Like everything is painfully scripted, "we love you(name of city)... You fucking rocked tonight(name of city)... so bad. sorry matt. I guess to each there own.

I mean my favorite singers very few of them had or have "broadway" voices. that's why I loved them, it's about the music and the lyrics. It's why American Idol is horrendous, no soul. of course Morrison, Axl and Plant are pretty close to perfect the others with there own unique style include:
Shannon Hoon, Neil Young, Taime Downe, Adam Horovitz, Patterson Hood, Perry Farrell, Ian Astbury, Stephen Pearcy...

I use to be into Faster Pussycat in my eary teenage years, but natedog, Taime Downe does not have his own style. He is a typical 80's hair band singer. A unique voice, but not a unique syle.

ehh... Sebastian kinda has always been a turd in person. I'd like to see an "unknown" or someone fresh. rather than someone that gained some "superstar" type recognition by the masses. (scott weiland, sebastian bach,....... ). That way, blind melon isnt the "sebastian bach backup band" or they be called a "new stone temple pilots" album.... and though i love Taime down and faster pussycat..... i'd rather see him keep it up with them. Which brings me to a pic from the WAY BACK IN THE DAY section of me and some friends @ hangin with Faster Pussycat. OLD cheesy pics RAWK! haha.

grumpin, i can kinda see that, he was absolutely by far one of the most talented 80s hairband guys....he wiped the floor with brett michaels' drag queen, cliche persona....(however i was a poison fan before finding more meaningful lyrical prose than "talk dirty to me" ), or maybe i was just blindsighted by sebastian's fabulous hair and eyes (he was beautiful!!).... but re your statement about the personality conflicts....what i think wouldve been funny would to have seen him and shannon after a few rounds.....shannon would have killed him after 2 minutes of his smartass bs!!!! so from that perspective......it would probably take a tranquilizer gun to get him calmed down enough to be on the mellow melon level!! also, i think all reality show recycles alumni should be disqualified.....

I spoke briefly with the lead singer of Faster Pussycat when I was working as a stage hand at the Miami Arena. He seemed nervous, so I just chatted with him. seemed like a nice guy. I have been thinking the lead singer from Tesla could probably do it. His voice is high, and he has that slight rough edge also. Wonder what Tesla's doing these days.

They put out an album last year, and will be touring Europe for most of the Summer.

Bach def has a voice, can't take that away from him, but not melon material vocally or personality wise.
Now natedog you got some good ones in your list, Ian Astbury being my favorite.
I suggested the lead singer from American Minor to someone in the know and he said he has the rasp but not the range while Chris Shinn has the range but not the rasp. We need a hybrid because that's a tall order indeed.
I was watching the Rolling Stones, Shine a Light movie, they had Buddy Guy doing Champagne & Reefer with Jagger and Christina Aguillara did a number with him but can't remember which but it blew me away and I'm not an Aguillera fan. In my opinion, if you can have talent that differs so completely and it gels well anything is possible.
Melon may need 2 singers because finding a voice similar to Shannon's is a very tall order indeed. I've listened to so many singers and can't find anyone with the right mix, range, rasp, personality..........but I'm not giving up
