Hi all,
We've been quiet on things because we learned the hard way that it is best not to talk about what we are doing until we are sure everything's set. In regards to the situation with Chris Shin, this would be example #1 of how people get their feelings hurt when incomplete or inaccurate information is relayed. We all phoned or wrote to Chris Shin last month and apologized for the problems...this is what I would have wanted had I been in his shoes and seemed to be the best way to handle it. But different strokes for different folks and all, so here's a public apology to Chris:
We are very sorry that we did not handle things better than we did with Chris. He's a great guy, a lot of fun to be around, and a tremendous talent. We gave it the best we could, and spent many days in the rehearsal studio going over stuff to try to get a feel for it. We have spent countless thousands of hours playing music together...so much so that it is now a part of our DNA. We, and nobody else, KNOW what feels and sounds right. I know that it is difficult for people to understand...especially when you've heard Chris sing with THAT VOICE....but it just didn't work. If it doesn't work for us, we can't make it work for you.
Chris has no need to be embarrassed by the situation as he handled himself very professionally the entire time. As I told Chris, WE are the only ones who should be embarrassed. I would very much like to be able to rewind the clock on this one and fix things, but that can't happen. I hope that Chris will one day accept the band's apology and we can do something...record some new songs...anything. I'm bummed this all got screwy, because I really enjoyed hanging with Chris (I'd not before spent time with him and didn't really know him well). I'm hopeful that with some water under the bridge we can be friends in the future.
I'm also hopeful that everybody here on the forum will soon stop arguing with each other over all this. I'm sure that many of you don't like it as much as we don't like it...it's very discouraging. We've done some stupid shit over the last few months...admitted...but that's no reason for all of you to start teeing off on each other.
You all will be the first to know when we are solid.
luv ya

Hey Rogers and the rest of the band, don't give up and don't let anything discourage you. It's been said so many times before and it's true: the music you create together is magic, it gives strength and hope when things behind the smiles ain't ok! We'll always be here for you, just like we were during all the years when we never thought a reunion might even happen, and just like your music is always there for us. btw, you're all a part of my photo site: www.barbaramilavec.comI put up something quickly and didn't have much material ready (the site will grow in the future), but Blind Melon just had to be a part of it since the beginning love you all too, including Chris!

Thank you Rogers - we all really, really appreciate the update as you are all important to us!
I have complete faith in the band and know you will always do what is best for the band 1st - and sometimes I'm sure that just takes a while to figure out - I know you'll let us know when you know so I will try to be patient!
Enjoy Japan you lucky guys!

And if you close the door, the night could last forever....leave the wine glass out...and drink a toast to never......
Oh, someday I know someone will look into my eyes and say hello.....Hello!
You're my very special one......
But...If...You...Close The Door.....
We'll never have to see the day again....

Very classy way to handle this. Again, going above and beyond for your fans.
Rogers, I think there's a lot of people on this forum, myself included, that wish we could go back in time and change the way we handed ourselves throughout this whole fiasco. I think the forum as a whole owes you and the band a long and overdue PUBLIC apology of our own. Here's mine:
Your feelings of discouragement are completely understood and appropriate. I'm truly sorry for any personal involvement I may have had in facilitating those feelings. You and the band have no reason to be embarrassed because you were, with some level of trust obviously, letting us in and keeping us current on what was happening inside the fold. You trusted us to take that information and simply be informed, but many of us, myself included, ran with it and began asserting opinions and stating feelings with regard to a situation we really didn't know enough about to do so, thereby compromising that trust. I hope, in time, you can forgive me, as well as the others involved, for our reprehensible behavior, and that trust now compromised can be brought back to the level it once was before all this.
So there you have mine now. I hope many others follow suit. All that said, I really hope you read the responses to this latest post you made and derive a similar level of encouragement as the discouragement that you've felt. No matter how pissy we've gotten with each other, no matter how much venom that has been spit the bands way, or Travis's, or Chris, one thing I'm certain of is, and I hate speaking for others but I'm pretty sure 99% of the forum members are with me on this one, NONE OF US WANT YOU GUYS TO GIVE UP! It's not gonna be Chris who's gonna carry you guys forward. Fine. It may not be Travis, it may be Travis, FINE ALSO! Like you said, the band and only the band knows what feels right, and whoever the hell you find to stand with the band and sing the songs we all love, we are gonna be happy, albeit I'm sure in varying degrees, but we are all gonna be happy with whoever you choose. The only thing that will make EVERYONE unhappy, for sure, is if you guys quit. Some of us don't like the new material, MANY OF US DO. Please keep that in mind also. It's BLIND FUCKING MELON for Christ's sake! All of us share one common thing at this forum, and that is that WE LOVE BLIND MELON. We lost you guys once, please don't do it to us again. Take as much time as you need. My personal preference is keep quiet about the goings on, as you stated you thought was best practice, and let us know when you have a solid direction. But for Gods sake don't let the negative ramblings of your emotional and deeply passionate following lead you in a direction that is an end. Anyway, and this is kind of a friendly challenge, look at the stats. The numbers boss. Tally up the amount of posts that are positive, all the posts on this site, and then tally up the ones that are negative. I'm certain you'll find it's only a small percentage of the total posts that are negative and shitty. And you'll probably also find it's a small percentage of forum members that are actually consistently posting negative shit. Don't let the few destroy what is beloved to the masses. Just some perspective and positive reinforcement from a person who loves this band, fuckin loves you and what you do with that geeeeetar of yours and the songs you write and your band writes. O.K. man?
Yours,
Doug
