Rogers, I'm not disappointed just as long as Blind Melon keeps trying to find a way. Unified Theory is not Blind Melon. As I type this, Last Laugh is blasting my ear drummies. I'll forever be waiting! Please keep Blind Melon growing!

I'm a little urked right now, but what can I say? I'll get over it. In an extremely filtered post, I will hit some high points on where I'm at right now....I'd rather see a new Everything is Energy album than Unified Theory. UT was great, but it's the past, EIE is the future. And a boundless and amazing future it is. To say Blind Melon has a "sound" is a lo--....wait, filter coming loose, sorry. I respectfully disagree with that assertion. Every one of Blind Melon's albums had a different "sound". I cannot beleive a voice that makes a person stop in their tracks would be a voice that one could not embrace and have vision to adapt with. Sorry. I've got the whole Travis doing the new years thing and that's cool. I understand why that's going down and I agree with it in principle. Sounds like Unified Theory? Theres a disconnect for me there. You can set a diamond in a million different rings and it will be a different ring every time. Chris is a diamond. Multi-faceted and pure as they come. How can you not see a way to set it into your ring? Ugh, I'm really, really trying not to come off as a complete prick here. I understand the situation is complex, but damn, I was really looking forward to a Chris Shinn fronted Blind Melon. I tried to accept the thought of Travis coming back into the fold and be o.k. with it, hell I think I even posted something along those lines, but I renig that, here and now. Chris was the future of Blind Melon for me. Now I'm not so sure I care about that future so much. I need more time to soak all this in. I shouldn't post this, but I will anyway, I'm not one to hold back my feelings. I feel I've done it respectfully, I apologize in advance if I've offended anyone.

Ahh- I SEE said the blind man. This really was a rarity...the opportunity to hear Blind Melon live- the thrill of a lifetime. I know you won't put anything out there that doesn't represent, but I think we're all open to whatever new collaborations result from your trip back to the drawing board :B If Travis ultimately moves on- how bout a Storytellers show?- I think we all got pretty worked up over the idea of hearing different artists perform some Melon. THANK YOU for setting it straight...

For Rogers and the rest of BM:
I trust you. I am thankful that there's going to be a New Year's Eve show at all and I will be there showing my full support. It's awesome that we get to see Travis again. I was on the Chris Shinn wagon myself, but I believe what Rogers said about BM sounding too much like UT. If that's how BM feels about it, then I trust them. I love Chris, UT, and EIE and if Chris can be a part of BM's future, I am all for it, but it shouldn't be forced. It's not fair to BM, Chris, or the fans. At this point, I really just want to urge BM and Travis to work toward a common future together.

Come on guys!! We have to trust their decisions.
Remember: We do not know the whole story, and the band will try to do what is best for Blind Melon. Have a little Faith!

I have a question... Does the new Queen album sound like a Bad Company record? or a Free record?
Part of the fun of being in a band and getting a new singer is seeing where that new singer takes you...
I for one don't want to see Blind Melon with just another Shannon soundalike...
Not that I'm taking anything away from Travis. I think he does his own thing and does it quite well on the album. It's got to be tough to find someone that can both do justice to old songs AND carve out a niche of his own on new ones...
Good luck to you guys...
And HELL YES to a new Unified Theory album... The 2nd album blew me away... You guys were just ahead of the curve with that record. It's STELLAR.
Oh, and I can solve this problem real fast... I'll sing... There, done.

What i can surely say is the two UT records were EXPLOSIVE, and that is something which For My Friends wasnt up to par with... those two albums were great blueprints of how to make great, successful records in the modern era... and that is something that you BM boys should learn from, that changing the sound is a way to keep up with the Joneses... it was evidenced in the last record it was no match to the first 3 records, it wasnt even in the same stadium, it only made it into a small club down the road, if u get my analogy... because the band is still BM, this is why i compare the new record to the old ones, cause as fans i expect nothing less than to match the old records, and im afraid id be kidding myself if i said For My Friends did... with that album i keep getting the vision of that RHCP music clip where they show footage of fan after fan, reflecting that they are sitting back on their success and fanbase, and accepting that they can not achieve anything else... BM are way to good for that sort of thing... i dont want a 'nostaglia trip', i want my inventive and original BM back...
you guys said that what got Travis into the band was that he 'stopped u in your tracks', well apparently so did Chris... the writing is on the wall... Shinn has two EXPLOSIVE UT records under his belt, and i dont see why u guys arent willing to compromise to see where his talents lead you... i only say these things cause i care so much about you guys, and that i wanna be 100% honest, cause atm there are numerous other bands out there whose music id rather be listening to, and that includes Shinn's work, than BM's For My Friends record, and i find that really sad...

LOL...we are all crazy...Blind Melon is a great band and hopefully they continue. however, if they feel that Travis is a better fit than we all have to respect that. Honestly, I hope they do the New Years show, record a live album, take time off to regroup Unified Theory, Tour/put out a new UT album, Travis release his much anticipated solo album, and then Blind Melon play a two night performance with Chris Shinn one night and Travis T. Warren the next night followed by the much anticipated follow up to For My Friends that will blow the WORLD away. Then I think we should all be happy...

I cant help but feel selfish in saying this...and after all if it wasn't for being a Blind Melon fan i would have never known of Unified Theory...but i felt way worse when Unified Theory disbanded than i felt after learning of Travis' departure. And i do like the For My Friends cd. And i will also continue to follow and support Blind Melon in whatever road they choose to travel....I just wish it would have been with Chris Shinn!!! -Jim

Were the heck is the NYE show going to be. I want to go. I frickin hope you guys work things out. I love this band and the show I saw rocked last year. Travis you are incredible please don't let anything in your life prevent you from being with one of the greatest bands out right now. I have to say though I downloaded the unified Theory cd its pretty damn good, but I don't think Chis can match the power travis brought back to the band.
TRAVIS!! TRAVIS !!! I think the fans have spoken.

OH, SORRY, MISSED ROGERS POST #geeky# ID STILL LIKE TO HEAR CHRIS WITH THEM JUST TO SEE WHAT IT SOUNDED LIKE.

The band announced that they were holding auditions, and because it was an 'emergency,' that Chris Shinn would fill in for the New Year's show ONLY.
At that point, a groundswell of support for Chris Shinn as the PERMANENT lead singer of Blind Melon sprung up on this board. Now, I KNOW why so many of you feel so passionately about Chris (I love his voice myself), and some of you know him personally on some level so I understand the loyalty there.
It started to bother me when it went past people just being supportive to a case of many people declaring, both figuratively and literally, that Chris Shinn was the ONLY singer that they felt they could accept as a permanent replacement. Mind you, none of the official statements from the band indicated anything except one single show on the schedule, with Shinn filling in.
We all know that the band always stays in close contact with us fans, and they keep up with much of the activity on this board, and I actually felt kinda bad for them. What if Chris didn't work out as a permanent member? What if the band, as much as they respect and like Chris, just didn't think he was the best guy for the job? I think that people were kinda putting Rogers, Glenn, Chris and Brad 'on the spot, 'so to speak. "Hire this guy, 'cause we all agree that he's the best choice." Just seems like many of the fans were putting undue pressure on the band during a very hairy and uncertain time for THEM.
I guess I had good reason to feel uncomfortable, because it looks to me like Rogers has been essentially forced into making a statement about WHY their pal Chris isn't going to be their new lead singer, information that really is NONE OF OUR BUSINESS, and frankly, it's probably not easy for those guys to tell Chris 'no' in the first place, especially considering how badly he supposedly wanted the job, and the fact that he's a friend.
And NOW, I'm reading people freakin' COMPLAINING about Travis coming back to do the show?
People COMPLAINING and actually having the NERVE to question Rogers' post and the band's decision?
This isn't fantasy football, people. Band chemisty is a magical and elusive thing, and you can't necessarily pull a name out of a hat that 'looks good on paper' and declare that it'll be magic. It doesn't work that way. There are four guys who know what's best for Blind Melon, and we know exactly who they are. If you think you know better, get over yourself.
I honestly hope that Rogers or any of the bandmembers feel they need to justify their decision about Chris ANY further to anyone here. Far as I'm concerned, case is closed, Travis is back at least for a show, and we still have Blind Melon making music.
As far as the first post in this thread, HALLELUJAH. I'm not going to the show but I wish I could, and I'll be checking this here board on the first day of '09 to find out how it went. No matter what, Travis will always have my gratitude and respect because that little shit from Texas was the ONLY guy who could give us back Blind Melon. No matter if New Year's is his last show or his first of many more, I'll never forget what he gave me. It's deep, man.
To Blind Melon: have a great show, fellas, do a little healing and feel that magic one more time. I still think you're crazy but you would have been crazier just to leave the whole Travis situation on such an awful note. Thanks for being forgiving and bringing it all together at least once more.
