I was thinking about the logic behind their picking of the first single. A lot of people thought "For My Friends" would be the first. The song is friggin' excellent! However, when a band reunites after their lead singer dies of a drug overdose, I think the media would have a field day with the lyrics to "For My Friends". Drinking, poppin' pharmies, smoking... etc...
When you listen to "Wishing Well"... it's a very positive song, lyrically. A song about helping people. That's just my opinion, but I'm thinking the lyric content and meaning had a lot to do with what song would be their first single.

What you said makes a lot of sense. I think people were leaning towards "For My Friends" because they played it live on Q101. I'm excited for "Wishing Well", but I hope that "Harmful Belly" gets a chance too!

I could also see the reason behind releasing "For My Friends" as the first single is because that is why this band is continuing. Travis has said many times that he is doing this so the guys can continue to play and make music. So he is doing it "For My Friends". Not to say that Travis isn't also enjoying making his own music, I am just interpreting (again) what he has said in concert. I totally see the point about the drinking, drugs, etc., but I interpret that as remembering your youth, being grateful for it, and being thankful that there were and are people to help you through it and grow with you. Again, just my opinion. Plus, the song is so melodically friendly that radio stations will love it.

I absolutely agree. That wasn't my point at all. I interpret the song the same way you do... But, there is still those drug related references... 'Tis all I was saying.

I wonder if they factored in the response they got at the shows. It also showcases each member's talents. Good choice, good choice.

Matt- I gotcha. I definately conceed the drug point. The song is just so flippin' awesome that it will upset me if critics bash this album like they did "Soup". They are always so quick to rush to judgement, even on good music.

Do you think the single will be anything other than the song? Like will there be a live cut of it, or another b-side song? I know it's a digitl single, but that could still be done of they wanted to. I mean, for them to release it a month and a half before the album I kinda hope that it's not just the final version of that song, which we've already heard.

There are definitely b-sides so I hope they will offer at least one with the single. Travis told us in Raleigh that they were talking about releasing a b-sides album. He said they had over 20 songs for this album. I'm hoping we get to hear those songs at some point in the near future. A live track or two would definitely be nice.

I wish they still did physical copies of singles, but technology I guess has ruined that. Even a 7 in vinyl would be sweet!!! From the looks of it the album will have 13 songs so I hope the rest of them see daylight down the road.
