Went to see the band for the first time since 92 and I was surprised by a few things. The first that Bass player Brad Smith wasn't onstage playing with the band. Has he left the band? Guy on bass was good. He hit all the high harmonies on vocals, but Brad puts a groove into his bass lines that are difficult to mimic.
Is Brad gone for good?
The next thing I was surprised by was the singer. He had the sound. He did the vocals justice. He had the screams down. Anyway, he did a good job with the material.
Rodgers and Christopher still have that chemistry on guitar. They seamlessly weave in and out of each other's way. Which is prolly what I like most about the band. Has that Traffic vibe. All in all is was a good show and it seemed.as though the guys were really giving an effort and but just going thru the motions.
But, what happened to Brad Smith?

Unfortunately, Brad is no longer in the band. I'm hoping the guys can make a proper statement regarding that. But, at the moment things are a little heated.

Not sure why they waited 25 years to throw away their credibility. Now the current lineup is 60% Blind Melon, 40% Texas Lights. It's not fair to the fans that have stuck by the band to be deceived like this. To not even address it is total disrespect to us fans. Bummed out would be an understatement. Brad was a major writer for the band. His influence on the sound is undeniable. The surviving members always said they would protect the integrity of the music. And honestly, it's all downhill from here once this can is opened. I'm guessing in the next couple of years we will now see many versions of this band. The door has been opened, anyone can be replaced. That's too bad. Good luck down the line, think this fan gonna listen to something different.
