Remember the days when there were rumours about a new album? a New tour Date? then we were hearing of a Shannon Hoon Documentary? Those were some special times that us fans would only dream of 20 years ago. The forum was going nutz!!!
Here at our doorstep we Finally have the chance to Contribute to The Shannon Hoon film!
Currently we are just under the 67K mark.
My hope is to create a Mini buzz here to propel Kickstarter over the goal. Are you with me?!
...I Think It's Time....
Firstly, I would like to ask everyone a question...
What would seeing this Film Completed Mean To You?!!
My answer is a multifaceted one. I'm not sure there is a more impressionable time in a person's life than his/her teen/college years. Blind Melon came into my life during those years. The years when you are trying to find yourself, & who you hope to become. The music & culture was strange & shifting in the early 90's. I can remember the metal scene and the abrupt shift to Grunge/Alternative (we all know BM was wrongly pegged here), then I can remember the Weekly Top 20 Videos being a mix of Alternative and R&B. Blind Melon felt Real, not manufactured. Blind Melon has always felt like Home to me. Once in awhile you go after the fast food, but you always come home to that home cooked meal. Musically they were tops. I love the Time shifts, like the Beatles. It keeps a song moving & fresh. I love the intertwining & jams of the guitars. They blend in & out of each other seamlessly. Brad kept it smooth & funky. His voice really complimented Shannon's so well. Glen kept everyone TIGHT! There is only One Voice Like Shannon's. I love the ambiguity in his lyrics. The man Delivered! This band was clearly from an other era!
So part of me is excited to see this film to experience what Shannon caught culturally during those times. Things we may have forgotten about over the years.
Part of me is excited for some fresh insight on this band that we all feel we know well. I'm really hoping to see some footage of the Mammoth Sessions! Also, much of the Soup creating days seems a bit of a mystery. I cannot wait to see some of that footage as well!
Having friends struggling with addiction, I am grateful for this film. My hope is that it will help those struggling to seek help, and to maybe comfort those who have lost someone along the way.
Lastly, and most personal to me, I cannot wait to see The Creative Process! As a guitar player, I have always marvelled at how a band comes to a finished product. There really is no formula. Everyone is on their own path, and that's what makes it amazing! I cannot wait to see some of the material in it's infancy & developmental stages.
Thank you to Shannon & his family for making this available. Thank you to Danny Clinch & staff for the years of dedication & tears. Thank you to the Band for continuing to touch so many lives!
Thank You!!
