I hope anyone who never got the chance to see Blind Melon with Shannon can relate to how I'm feeling right now. A month ago I saw Blind Melon in Decatur and it was honestly one of the top 3 moments of my life. But, sometimes when I'm thinking about Shannon being gone a lot, or just in a sad mood I get super upset and brought to tears that I will never get to see Shannon perform with them. I'll never get to see my favorite band all as one. I can't really talk about it to anyone around here or my friends because they wouldn't understand how you could love someone so much that you never met, or a band that much even. Maybe before I die they'll invent a time machine and we can all go back and see them play. Anyway, I'm just having one of those nights where it is really getting to me so I thought I'd share.

same here. I didn't discover the Melon until Fall of 2000. Thankfully I have seen the new lineup about a dozen times and they have been amazing. Still have my fingers crossed for more new music from them. Even a 5 or 6 song EP would be great. Until then their side projects are also great!

I haven't posted in forever and a day. Mostly for the reasons you talk about. Blind Melon's music with Shannon is woven into my being, it is in my bloodstream yet, I can't get away from the profound sadness of what if, what if the band had been talked into putting a reworked super jammed out Mother on Soup, what if the band had been talked into putting Soul One on Soup. In my mind you would have had a far different response to the record and hence a different outcome in the entire touring cycle that by all accounts should have been pushed back if not cancelled all together. What if's consume me when it comes to Shannon and Blind Melon's music. I have to play the music as it feeds my soul, but I end up with that profound and deep sadness. I have stayed off any forums and just deal with it by myself, but I can no longer do that or it will consume me. How do you all get past the what if's and the sadness, I can't seem to get there. I am only a fan, the band and families have a sadness I will never feel, but my pain is real, and it hurts. Is that just part of it all, I can relate so much with the OP. It is 2014, you'd think this would have gotten easier.

In my opinion... you can't really dwell on the What-Ifs.. Everyone had a choice, when it came to supporting the Soup record.. The songs that ended up on the record are just choices the band made, collectively. We (the fans) can now say "this song should have been on the record, and this song should have too"... That really doesnt matter... In 1994/95, the band recorded Soup... and the band said "these are the songs we want on it"..
As for touring to support it... I think everyone knew what they were doing. EVERYONE knew they were going out, on tour, to support the record... If ANYONE in the band was not up to par, to tour, they could have opt out.
