well, i know its not realistic or probable and only wishful thinking, but i think it would be supercool if we could get a chip in site together for blind melon to play at a somewhat central location in the u.s. before i get totally shot down.....hear me out.... cause i dream big! anyways, we could set up a site and 1. see how much it would take to get the band to play 2. not get discouraged by the $$$ 3. find a melonhead friendly venue/residence/field 4. make arrangements for all accomodations---favorite food/drinks/lodging 5. anyone who contributes could come and charge $30? at the day of the concert for anyone else--even have a food collection for the needy/homeless--lets "make a difference" while we're at it. 6. nothing would be left for the band to do....we could even just have an unplugged/acoustic show where all they would have to do would be to bring acoustics and minimal drums/percussion. (of course we would much rather have a full sound/electric show, but personally, i think an "unplugged/storyteller/sit crosslegged by the fire show" would be awesome too.
just a thought---or two. yeah, its not probable.realistic,or logistically sound at this moment, but we melonheads are creative/innovative types and im for certain we could do this......and im sure theres going to be a lot of well.....what about this...its not that simple.....that wont/cant happen........but i know theres some hardcore melonheads that could make this happen.....just a mindless proposition by a silly, yet determined melonhead.

I would totally be in for this, but like you said a lot of work. Honestly, the best chance might be to do it around the time of Shannon's Vigil as many fans already plan on being around that weekend...just my two cents

Tara, your post reminds me of this quote by Homer Simpson,
"Your ideas are intriguing to me, and I would like to subscribe to your newsletter. . ."
Denece, I think you have a great idea. There would be quite a few logistical hurdles in the way of that happening, but the essence of your idea is golden!

haha! yes.....im thinking long-term commitment here....dollar by dollar...penny by penny....month by month....as dramatic and heart-wrenching as a lifetime movie of the week.......its more of a mission than an immediate solution......

This idea isn't totally crazy! It reminded me of an event based on a very similar "by the fans, for the fans" concept that's been going on for years. Some of you may remember a 90s band called the Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies. Back in 1999, led by one hardcore fan named Bryan, a group of Wheelie fans put together an event called Wheeliefest. Taking place in the Poconos of Pennsylvania, the fans rented an outdoor pavilion/park/venue, hired a caterer, bought a bunch of beer, and sold tickets which allowed attendees to camp, drink unlimited beer, swim in the lake, and see their favorite band in the world amongst a few hundred other faithful. Ticket prices are usually in the 40-50 dollar range, and attendance would be in the 500-700 range. Wheeliefest merchandise sales and sponsorships helped cover expenses, too. Other lesser known bands have also been on the bill over the years (including American Minor, who had an album produced by Chris and Brad), making for a full day of music, food, swimming and fun, capped off by the headlining band late into the wee hours. Fans travel from all over the US and Canada, many of them making it their one vacation getaway every year. The venue is fairly far from neighbors, and while local cops have been called a few times because of noise, the event has been pretty much trouble-free for years. The festival has never made much money (pretty much covered expenses), and as the years went on, the Wheelies went on to other projects and Wheeliefest became one of just a handful of shows they would play annually. Eventually the Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies broke up but the event has continued in the same spirit, and Wheeliefest 14 took place this past summer. My point is...it CAN be done. Anyway, if there are any Melon fans out there with the resources, time and ambition, this kind of event could happen. I know I'd be there. Wheeliefest head honcho Bryan Thompson is a great guy, and I'm sure if you asked, he'd be happy to give some pointers on how to organize such an event. www.wheeliefest.comwww.facebook.com/pages/WHEELIEFEST/324985993081
