OK I know I just posted a thread a couple minutes ago but this is completely different subject matter so I hope that's alright. Also I know there's another thread on here about BM vinyl but my question is concerning 2 pieces I saw on eBay recently.
The first - which I just won for $20 plus $4 shipping - is a "Galaxie" red 10" UK vinyl. It says in the product description that it features that track + 3 demos (Wilt, 2x4, St. Andrew's Fall). Anyone ever seen this on vinyl and if so is it worth the amount I paid for it? I think the red vinyl itself is cool BUT I'd never seen the 4-track red vinyl before.
Second is a yellow/gold vinyl of No Rain / tones of Home that I saw going for $40 + shipping. I did not buy that (yet or at all) because I'm not sure if it's worth that AND I've seen other yellow vinyls go for cheaper. Any info on that would be cool....

I have the Galaxie vinyl... And I also have a yellow vinyl 7" of No Rain... The front cover has a still from the No Rain video, and a strip along the top of the picture says that it includes "No Bidness" Haven't had a look at it for a while, but I'll check when I get home and write any more details! $20 seems a good price for the Galaxie $40 seems quite a bit..... Actually thinking about it now, I'm pretty sure the one you are looking at is a Capitol Jukebox press for No Rain, with Tones as the B side. Purple label with a large spindle hole right? Yeah $40 is a bit much!

Book Value May Lean Towards " A Bit too Much", But its worth whatever you were willing to pay for it. (Not to discredit ol"s Reply By any Means). He Is Likely right. The Book Value Probably isnt $40 on the item. I Guess, what I am saying is "Wasnt it worth $40 to YOU Personally? I Can say without a doubt that there are few Items in my collection That Most would say werent worth what i gave for them. By the same Token, I dont intend to sell the anyways, so They are Worth whatever I was willing to pay to add that Piece to my collection. I recently Paid Quite a bit More than "Going Rate" for The Soup "Menu Press" CD with the Leather Cover. It Looked BRAND NEW. I Feel Very Confident with my decision to pay the extra Money to Get what I wanted.

Don't know where you're at on this, but I thought I'd reply just the same.
The red vinyl Galaxie 10" was the item Capitol released to record stores in the summer of '95 to promote Soup. My local store wouldn't give it to me as an employee had already laid claim to it, but I found it a short time later, still sealed, at a used record store in Boston for $10. If it's only gone up $10 in 16 years, you scored. That's a great piece o' Melon to have.
I also have several import singles, a yellow vinyl No Rain 7" w/ a live No Bidness b-side, and a green vinyl Change 7". I mention the second one b/c I bought them both along w/ a Tones of Home 12" picture disc all at the same time from an online store in England about 10 or 12 years ago. I didn't pay $40 for all 3 combined then (even w/ shipping) and wouldn't now either.
But as mentioned by Fleshermelon, it's all about what these things are worth to you. Colored vinyl looks cool, but don't let it be a factor in your decision, it hardly affects value.
And if that No Rain single you're talking about had Tones for the b-side, it's likely the domestic juke-box press as Ol said in the other reply and is hardly worth $40, but again, that's up to you.
To put it in perspective, I have an extensive Melon collection, but refuse to pay $100+ dollars for a vinyl of the self-titled album, just like a few years back I couldn't bring myself to buy a Sippin' Time Sessions acetate for $199 from a guy in Denmark. You have to ask yourself is it really worth it and can you afford it?
The beauty of ebay is, that stuff you want always comes around again and eventually you'll be in the right place at the right time for the right price.
Best regards.
