After listening to this audio clip of the Howard Stern show, I think that it doesn't mean too much in the scheme of things. When reading the tabloid headlines from the ragazines in the grocery store check-out aisle, I sometimes wonder, how do these publications not get sued for all of the crap they print? But then I remember that it is quite rare for an individual to win a case against a tabloid for printing something that is untrue. The reason for this (usually) is that most people don't put any stock into what tabloids print, and therefore most courts rule in favor of the tabloid, just because most people don't believe the crap that is printed in the headline of a tabloid. I'm not saying that Stern's comments about Shannon are true or false. I just think its one of those situations (like some people have already stated) - consider the source. He's just trying to get a rise out of people. And if this gets our panties in a bunch, then he will be satisfied that his job has been done well. Don't give him (or anyone) that satisfaction that they don't deserve. In conclusion, I will just say that I respect the person that Shannon Hoon was (infinitely more than who Howard Stern is or could ever be). Well said my friend! Also, not that this excuses anything by any stretch of the imagination, but Stern has changed his tactics after Artie Lange died. Seems to happen to most people after they lose someone who is important to them and they can see it from the inside. He's not quite so harsh about people who OD. Most of the time instead now he gives almost like a PSA telling people to get help. Sad that it took someone else to die for him to get it. Artie died? That's news to me and probably to him too.

Artie isn't dead. He tried to kill himself a year or so ago and hasn't been on the Stern show since. And yes Howard still does the same things he used to (at least some of them) because he was making fun of Michael Jackson's death pretty harshly (in the same vein he did with Shannon) and that was months after Artie's suicide attempt. Like I said, I think that's his "thing" is that no other celebrity (singer, actor, etc.) matters to him enough to say something nice when they die.

Sorry, (keep the laughs coming I mixed up the names) I meant Greg Giraldo, not Artie. #sEm_oops#

I remember that interview sitting outside my oldest son's preschool steaming pissed off and basically crying in frustration that he would talk about Shannon like that. He was #1 in Philly for YEARS til he went to satellite radio. I was so pissed I stopped listening to him for 2 years! My husband went in to drop off my son while I punched the dash, threw shit in my car, cussed HS up one side and down the other and generally had a hissy fit the likes of which no one in that school had EVER seen! I know it's his job but he's a button pusher which is what makes him so unique. I could only listen to about 3 minutes before the rage started coming back again so I stopped. Why open an old wound? I just pray Nico and Nel never hear that!
