Hi. I just read Greg Prato's book and decided to re-discover Blind Melon again...I was a huge fan since a buddy of mine loaned me a tape in late 1992. I saw them at St. Andrews Hall in March of 94 and in Tempe at the Electric Ballroom in Oct of 1995...Both shows were amazing, the new record was surprisingly strong.
Then I hear about this documentary and it sounds like an amazing piece of art. can't wait.
I stumbled upon this site looking for bootlegs..I would love a bootleg of the Detroit Show, if anybody has one out there. I would also ask the band to open up the vaults and give some more old music..raw cuts, etc. Maybe one day you guys could take the unfinished bits of Shannon's work and turn it into something new. I am sure that i am saying nothing new, but, Melon was my Grateful Dead, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd..I was only 21 when Shannon died and they were the only band for me, that I truly looked forward to their work...They appeared to be a band where the musicianship was great and they appeared to be growing each concert and I felt cheated as a fan...that the ride ended after only 2 albums. Anyway...for my friends was awesome. I rambled, sorry.

The Detroit Show was in March of 1994. It was at St. Andrews Hall (it may have been the night the girl jumped and they got the idea for the song) I know it was March because spring had just started, because we were sitting their loving the weather and then typical Detroit..it started snowing on the way to the show. I also know that it was 1994 and not 1993 because No Rain was huge at that point and I don't believe the single broke by March of 1993. The show was ridiculously good...from the playing, to the fans, the fans were awesome that night, real mellow...kind of like what you imagine the deadheads to be, that is, until you actually go to a dead show and realize there are a bunch of a-holes here...in any event. I can't give you an exact date but I know it was March..

There are no known recordings of the show you are looking for in circulation.....I looked around to see if i could find the date of the show....I found they Played St Andrews Oct 25th 1992 and sept 24 1995.....didnt see anything in 93 or 94 but that doesnt mean they didnt play there those years......do you have an idea of a setlist? Did they play anything from the Soup album at the show? who was the opening act?

Thanx for the greetings and I spoke to a friend of mine, who went to the show i was looking for in Detroit and I was mistaken...we did not see them at St. Andrews...we saw them at the State Theater (now this place, which is now where Comerica Park and Ford Field are located) It has also been know by the name Clubland and Club X...but, I think it was the State Theater in 1994...we both agreed it was 1994 and it was March or April. If anybody can locate a bootleg of this show..it would be much appreciated, i ahd fun just talking about w/ my old friends..I am going back home to visit this summer and I would love to be able to give these as gifts to my friends. I haven't been home in about 3 years. Thanx

Welcome bro!!! I totally understand what you mean about Melon being your Grateful Dead. I was 15 years old when Shannon died. I was also majorly disappointed that it was the end. I liked most of For My Friends... but I liked every song they did during the Shannon era.

Thanx Theres no known shows in circulation of this either...sorry ...if you know any local tapers from that area and timeframe maybe you can ask them....do you remember seeing a taper at the show? Sometimes there are tapers who record the show for their own private listening pleasure that do not realize others would want it or are just not into the trading scene. Ive found a few shows like that before.....good luck and if you do find that particular show feel free to share it with us!!!! Much Melon Love & Respect Rachel

I know I have the stub but will have to look to find it. I remember where we parked, what we drank, jmd trying to pee out of the Villager door in traffic, the girl who watched me pee on the Villager tire in the lot, getting pushed into a wall by a bouncer, and that they played Out on the Tiles. Thanks for driving us to that show, ckay, and see you this summer.
