I'm such a dumbass.......
First before I explain my stupidity let me give you my story. I'm 46 and my first concert was Aerosmith in '77. Since then I've seen everyone from the Stones, Who, AC/DC (with Bon Scott ) to Molly Hatchett and Blackfoot on a double bill, Seger, Rush and on and on. Not saying I've seen more than anyone else because I know I haven't but I saw a lot of acts and thought I knew it all. I became a Dad at an early age so shows had to be at a premium for me to attend but I did the best I could.
I appreciate ANYONE who can play any kind of instrument because that will never happen in my lifetime BUT.....when I'm driving alone in my truck I can sing as good as anyone (in my own mind). Long story short I love singers because it's something I know I have the tools to do (yeah...RIGHT).
In 1990 I finally found MY band in the Black Crowes. They are definitely my #1a band. Chris has wrote the story of my life a gazillion times and the live shows are great. Around 1999 I was way late in finding my #1b band The Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies. If you're not familiar with them they have a singer with a unique voice and has lyrics that once again tell your life's story. Great live and not only is the singer Mike Farris top notch so is the band.
Which leads me to dumbassness. When I heard "No Rain" I dug it but to be honest it got really old really fast. That was it, I never even tried to find out what they were about. Like I said I love live shows but it had to be someone I really HAD to go see. I saw the YouTube video with Nico doing Change when it came out and was perplexed with the story of her and her late Dad. Then a fellow Crowes fan posted the Letterman "Change" video and the voice and lyric creator of my new got's ta sing like idol appeared. The late, great Shannon Hoon was a God given present. Like with the Wheelies the band is not good but damn f'n good. Dumbass from me is not getting in tune years ago. Dumbass from me is not seeing the band with Shannon long ago. It had to be what I want in a live show.....magical.
I may lean on others for advice on "this" song to dig. Thanks to MATT for helping me out on "Change" versions.
Peace, from your dumbass Mark
