I thought I would start a thread about the music of 2009. I have not had as much time this past year to check out new bands and new music, so I thought I would start a thread where everyone gets to share what they think was some of the best music of 2009. It can be a new album from an established artist or it can be a brand new artist that no one has ever heard of.
So please - let us know what new music you have been listening to this past year!
The Black Crowes - "Before the Frost-Until the Freeze"
"Appaloosa"
The Avett Brothers - "I and Love and You"
"Laundry Room"
Rusted Root - "Stereo Rodeo"
Weary Bones

Foxy Shazam was by far my favorite discovery of 2009
I hate to admit but I love the GA GA
Tori Amos had a great year! I am loving her Christmas/Holiday Album Midwinter Graces.
She also released Abnormally Attracted to Sin...possibly one of her best albums yet.

Good Thread, Good Tread! I was muchly anticipating albums from two of my favorite artists. Ben Harper, & Wilco. I thought both were solid, but nothing to really showcase. I would have to say Ryan, that the Black Crowes "Before the Frost" Blew me Away!. I was exciting to finally have new BC material when War Paint came out..... but this new album gave me the same "Free" feeling as the BM deput album. It was very free, live.... yet still has that produced quality to it. Many of the solos left me dumbfounded & w/ a silly grin. There were those fast paced songs, that stood out from the get go, but on 3rd 'n 4th listens, the mid tempo ones, Like "appaloosa" resonated true as well. This album made everything "right" for me, musically in '09. Make Glad- Black Crowes Imma gonna post a couple local talents now. There's a certain Maritime "sound" out here. Call it, celtic, acadian, or folk.... or a hodge podge of all them roots. David Myles- Cape Breton (a peninsula off Nova Scotia) Joel Plaskett came out w/ a TRIPLE disc album this year. a crazy feat. I think he just turned 33.... and the album is called, u guess it, "3". Good things come in threes There are some better songs from the album than this one, but this is the single. It's catchy When i see a Golf Cart in a music video, i can't help but think of the Dinosaur Jr. video to "I feel the Pain"

#thankyou#
Thanks for sharing everyone. Some great responses. I got to hear new music from artists I had never heard of. And sometimes I got to hear the music of an artist that I have been hearing about from others.
Please share more if you have a suggestion(s) on new music from 2009.

Matt Mays (East Coast Canadian) album "Terminal Romance" came out late in '08, and picked up a wicked pace in '09. They do tour the east coast of USA some. I dig this old tune that I happened to stumble upon just recently. It somehow evaded me for a few years. www.strimoo.com/video/10617336/Matt-Mays-El-Torpedo-Travellin-Live-MySpaceVideos.htmlThere are some killer acoustic versions of his songs out there. I would suggest looking up Matt Mays on the Q (a canadian radio show )

I like Cage the Elephant, but they remind me more of Beck then BM. I will pretty much just put a ditto on all the bands Mere said. Friend of mine opened for Foxy when they played Iowa City, so that is how I learned of them. I know they aren't a new band, but Paramore's new album "brand new eyes" (all lower case title) is one of the best albums I have heard all year. I also am digging The Dead Weather.
