I've recently found out about Blind Melon through what one might call coincidence (I needed a CD with a hidden track in the pregap of track 1 and I happened to find Soup first). I liked what I heard and I'm now trying to complete my collection. However, these Japanese versions are making my life somewhat more difficult.
The Japanese version of Soup also seems to contain a fifteenth track called Soup. Is this the same Soup as the one on Nico? And if so, why is the track listed as 7:15 long? Is there a long silence in between the start of the track and the start of the actual song? Can anyone who actually owns the CD clarify?
The Japanese version of Nico seems to contain Three Is A Magic Number. I have no reason to assume this is not the version we all know and love, but if anyone could confirm, that'd be great.
Finally, the Japanese version of Blind Melon contains two live tracks that, I've been told, aren't extremely rare. Given the high price, I'm not intending to buy it. Well, basically that's what this whole post is about - to make sure I'm not missing out if I don't buy these Japanese versions.
Thanks in advance for any new information you have!

I dont have the Japanese Version of Soup, so I can't help you there.
Nico's Japanese Version, like you said, has 3 is a Magic Number.. Nothing different than the ordinary. And, the self titled Japanese Version has No Rain, and Drive live (both are not rare). And, Self Titled Album was released in a few different variations.. Some with the extra tracks. Some without any extras.

Thanks! That answers all my questions except the one about Soup. I'm sure someone else will answer that one, though.

Where did you see the track listing for the Soup Japanese release?

I saw it here first: www.discogs.com/Blind-Melon-Soup/release/1150797I've also seen a picture of the back of the CD's casing. It was in Japanese (obviously), but the 15th track was also listed at 7:15, so I'm assuming this figure is accurate.

Yea, looks like it might be your initial thought... The space between Lemonade and Soup. However, I wonder if the hidden track is on there... Some are at the beginning of the CD (Or, before the 1st track).. and some are after the last song... I really am not sure about this one. Maybe Glen knows. Shoot him a message.

I PM'ed Glen but did not receive any reply so far, maybe he's just busy. Perhaps someone else knows the answer?
(I promise I won't bump this thread again if no one replies)

I managed to find an image of the track listing, although it's low-res: You can just make out the 7:15 for track 15 because you know that's what it's supposed to say. I also found something else interesting: www.excite.co.jp/music/disc/4988006709249/Here the extra time is added to Lemonade, which would seem to support my theory about it being silent.

Yep, very interesting.
I am almost certain that your initial thought was correct.

Hey guys, I never saw this thread when it was originally posted, which is a bummer as I own the Japanese versions of the BM discs Soup finishes like normal (Lemonade, with the happy New Orleans music and clapping). Then goes straight into "Soup". Which is the version found on "Nico," After that, there is a long silence, then the "New Life, Backwards (also known as "Hello Goodbye" or "That backwards music in the pregap of track 1"), after this the cd ends. I hope this (extremely late) information is still helpful!

Thanks! Better late than never, I guess... So does it contain the backwards New Life twice, or is it only there at the end of the disc?

Just the once, at the end of the disc.
