I haven't seen it but I'm curious about it since it is getting so much attention from the Golden Globes and Oscars.

i cannot BELIEVE this film is getting SO much press... i found it way overthetop, cheesy and inconsistant... and a silly unrealistic ending.... and if you struggle watching an episode of Who Wants to be a Millionaire, please dont put yourself through it, it is like 10 times as long, tedious, repetitive, blown out to 2.5 hours, which seems like 5 hours...
plus it is a 95% rip off of "City Of God" (2004) (i HIGHLY recommend it, great great great film), a true story set in the slums of Brazil, with the most satisfying ending possible, not some cliche Hollywood, crowd-pleasing, predictable one we've seen a thousand times before...
the only decent actors were the children at the start, the only part of the movie i dug... Danny Boyle's cred has gone way down in my eyes after this one, having made some of the best modern films... my theory why this film is gettin such praise is because critics have definitely not seen City Of God, which is a 'world' movie, this film leeches off the brilliance of City Of God...
i strongly recommend keepin your cash on this one, or goin to see The Wrestler or Milk (Penn goes on a guy pashing rampage, which is very entertaining ahaha), there you'll find some seasoned pro's who CAN act, just my opinion...

I have seen City of God and I loved that one too. The things I love about S.M. are the kids at the beginning, I can totally agree with you there. I think this movie is supposed to be a bit unrealistic, its like a modern fairytale. I also think that you have to have a little knowledge about Indian culture to get some of the things about the movie. Especially if you have watched any of the Bollywood films.
