I think Blind Melon should take a page out of the Pearl Jam marketing book. It would be wonderful to have access to live shows. I'm sure most everyone is aware that PJ offers their live shows for instant download. These shows are professionally recorded so the sound quality is great. You can even buy it as a CD if you want a hard copy. Maybe for financial reasons it would be best to just offer it as a download that way there are no manufacturing fees involved. It would be a great source of revenue for the band. Anyway, just thought I would throw this out for some comments. Maybe if the demand is there they would consider it.

I think that PJ are geniuses for doing that. I would hope that BM would consider doing that one day. Although we do have a lot of free, good quality stuff floating around now for many of the shows, I would gladly pay for the band for professional recordings of each show.

agreed. i'm a huge PJ fan and it's definately worth $10 to have a live professional mixed recording.

I totally agree. I've always hoped they would do the live recordings. I'd bet the band wouldn't mind it at all, if it didn't cost them anything and potentially made them some money, but they probably don't have the time or staff to deal with pursuing it. So if someone were make it easy for them, do the legwork...! Who's up for the challenge? Instant Live does this sort of thing.

There's a lot more involved than PR. It's recording the show, getting it ready to be hosted, and managing the servers necessary to have to shows available for download.
It has been mentioned to the band and I'm sure at some point they will investigate this idea further. It's great to know that there is definate interest in live downloads. CHEERS!!

i'm glad to see interest in the live shows. or as MUCH interest as there is. for so many years i swear thats all i listened to was the bee-sides and all the live stuff. Would be GREAT to have some professionally done, or soundboard recordings of the shows.
and multi camera dvd.... and mini cameras on the band members (like "tie-cams").... and every member of the audience gets a cam to record audience footage!... And..... and..... and....
:-)

A simple digital recording device with a direct feed into the soundboard would be sweeeeeeeeet. I believe that is the way PJ gets it done.

In my opinion a SBD recording lacks so much of the warmth and love that is a Blind Melon show. You can't hear the crowd singing it's guts out on Change or Pusher. You lose so much of the live show feeling. Also, soundboards aren't always mixed the best for listening at home. I think that best way to go is a matrix of the two sources that is optimally mixed to get the "fullness" of an AUD recording and the "cleaniness" of a SBD recording. Either way, the band would still need servers as a means to distribute the recordings.
I'm also not sure about the legality of a SBD recording. I think that the venue owners have ownership over SBD recordings and if the band were to use these recordings for profit, they may have to pay the venue. (I don't know about this......does anybody else?)

yes, you are correct in the sense that it loses some of the audience energy on the soundboard....
so... we now mic the audience too!...
I'm pictureing those video cameras too that run up and down the NFL sidelines and boom mics.... and .... and..... and ... Sharks with Friggin Lasers on their head!!
OK... i know i'm going WAY overboard... so we can forget the lasers.... but we still need the sharks!!... OH.. and JELLO wrestling!!
LOL.
