So as the countdown to the new tour shortens, I starting wondering if anyone's going to be recording the concerts. Like Matt mentioned in another thread, this time around we can be in control. We don't have to trade some guy who got the show from some other guy and so on. Has anyone on the board ever recorded a concert before? I'd love to tape the Columbus show, but I've never done it before. I'd be afraid I'd just get a loud bass-laden, horrible recording. We should get a little roster or something going so every show on the tour can get recorded in the best possible quality- possibly even soundboard.

I'm with you 311guy. Unfortunately, I don't have the equipment to properly record these shows. Unless one of us does, we'll be just hoping someone shows up with taping gear. I'm sure someone will be taping. I'm hitting up RI, VT, & NYC. If I see anyone taping, I'll be giving out my e-mail address to get the shows.

I have a recorded a few shows with my portable DAT and stereo mic. It works but I have heard way better material. If I could sneak onto the soundboard somehow then it would be cake. Life was so much easier at the studio than it is in a live environment I may try to record the Toledo show but only if the venue is cool with it.

Ryan can tape shows. When they make it to Colorado I'm sure he'll tape whatever shows he goes to. Greg and I don't have the gear to be able to tape. We were talking the other day about how we really need to get some but we don't know the first thing about it.

I'm actually conflicted. I want to fully enjoy the Blind Melon show when they perform here. I might have to buy a ticket for a friend that just kind of likes Blind Melon, and give that person recording duties for the evening.

hey dustin! here she be... www.myspace/llahsramkalso check www.myspace/blindmelonforum many of us are there I have gear to tape shows as well. I kinda feel what Ryan is saying though. When you are recording, you're missing many subtle things... I'd like to split tracks as i go. makes for a lighter workload later. I'd love to be a fly on the wall, and just hover all around the show...taking it all in! what'd be killer is gett'n hooked up to their soundboard !!!

btw Ryan, I understand that you're not sure about taping the show yourself, I was thinking the same, I want to enjoy the show 100% and be right in front of the stage like I always am! If I'd tape, I couldn't do that and it would suck. That's why I respect the tapers even more although I know some people don't mind standing in the back or beside the mixing table (or they even want to cause the sound is usally best there) and taking care of taping. It's another kind of pleasure...

i have the equipment but it's bulky and I don't have a battery pack so I need to sneak in a suitcase size recorder and then weasel an outlet somehow... but I can record three tracks at the same time... (ie: track 1;soundboard, track2;bass condenser mic, track;3normal condeser mic) if I can weasel my way in... the question is, will anyone VIDEO TAPE any shows?

Maybe the Columbus show?

I just listened to the new phone interview that Matt did with Brad Smith. They covered the taping policy. We basically have a green light to tape audio and/or video. This doesn't mean that each and every single venue will be cool with taping, but at least we have the blessing from a band member.
