What a show. wow. Unfortunately the sound guy did not reply about getting a sound board recording. And I did bring my video camera, but I when I started recording I was quickly told to shut if off by some guy at the club. I tried to explain that I called the bar ahead of time and they told me I could record, plus band members have said it was ok, but he wasn't listening. So i shut it off. I did get a couple short clips before this happened though. I got parts of Change and Wishing well, but no full songs. I'll post it up anyhow in case you guys want to check it out. I just posted a bunch of pics in the grog shop show thread.

I will be taping the Canopy also and from past shows it will be ok, The canopy is great with taping if the band is ok with it and will even go and talk with the managers / band members if they dont know about it

Hey Everyone I did not read the whole thread but from my understanding the taping policy is that open audience taping is allowed including video. No soundboards. You will have to make sure the venue allows taping. If they don't then no matter what the bands policy is on recording security will not let you in with your rig. This sounds like what happend to the person above. I do alot of taping here in the Colorado area and am freinds with Ryan. I have a semi proffessional rig that I can do 24 bit recording wich is good for archiving. So if they come out to Colorado I will get all the shows and give them to Ryan to post. Here is a pick of my Mics at the Phil and Freinds show at Red Rocks. Matt img502.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc03596reviseday9.jpg

Agreed on all of the above points Badboy made. The band has a very generous and open taping policy, the only problem in Chicago was that they didnt notify staff at Double Door. Not that they dont have more important things on their plate than making sure tapers are taken care of, but without them knowing it was almost a "no go". Special thanks to Colleen from the video crew (and part time back up singer) she took the time when the doors opened to get the FOH engineer and get permission for us to tape.. Our recording came out decent. Not awesome, but very listenable.. I'll post it up on etree this weekend for anyone who wants to download it.. Thanks agian to Colleen and of course Blind Melon.. What a great f'n band! Mark E

thanks marke! Will you please make a post in here once you have successfully uploaded it to etree? I would appreciate it a lot b/c it will save me from having to check etree all weekend to see if it's available (not like it's such a chore, but still). If I were you I would make a thread in the All That I Need section with the link to the show at etree so everyone can find it easily and give you the props you deserve for uploading it.

MarkE, How is your recording compared to the one I uploaded? Yours sounds great!! With the mics and deck you used its a hella good recording.. Mine does sound a little better (no mp3 compression), but I am running a much more expensive set up, so it should be a little better, but if you look at the price we both spent on recording gear, Mine may not justify the cost difference to recording.. I wasnt real thrilled with the mix there. Ive been to that club a million times for a million different bands, but sound was good not great in there.. I'll have it up on etree this weekend (most likely Sunday) to check out.. Hope y'all like it!! Mark E

Mark E This is my tapers philosophy on this issue. The band should make sure that tapers are allowed into the show. This should be one of the most important issues addressed with security. It only in the bands benefit to accommodate tapers. I can't think of any other way Blind Melon could get so much free advertising. Taping is not like it used to be. These shows are not being sold as bootlegs because there is so much free music out there anyway. With the INTERNET shows can be posted the next day giving the band free promotion and a great reputation as a band that loves their fans. The way music is being promoted is changing and I think this is one of the ways it is happening.
