I haven't seen it, but I heard that it was pretty startling.

I read an article in the paper the other day about the hole in the ozone layer being bigger than it ever has been. It's larger than the United States of America...I'm afraid to watch the documentary because I know I will be extremely upset about it.

That's strange Sonya, someone told me not too long ago that the ozone hole is getting smaller because people are taking more care about polution...like the gas that is more "ecologic", cleaning machines etc. And that if things will continue like this, the hole should dissapear by 2050 or something like this. It sounds strange, cause it's something positive and optimistic and we rarely hear that about this subject. I hope it's true though I think it was my dad who told me, and he saw a documentary about it

This thread reminds me of the song Mother. We all have to make changes in our lives however small to heal our Mother. I love this world. I also get very upset Sonya by what goes on and the cavalier attitude many people have towards the environment. The only way I can manage that is by doing what I can and signing lots of petitions and sending lots of nasty letters to our politicians. I love the fact that you're in horticulture, you must be learning some very interesting stuff. I'm a great lover of nature and want our children's grandchildren to be able to do the same. It was nice talking to you all last night!

It's just a pontual thing. the biggest problem is the global warming to me. Finding a solution means changing our way of life like stopping using your car when u can use your bicycle, feet, buses or consuming in a better way it's not the easiest thing to do

Our society is a consumer driven one and I don't know what it will take to change that. It would have to be a catastrophic collapse of our social structure.

Thanks for clearing it up Vince. I agree, we need to do what we can. If politicians don't want to do enough about it, we can still do what's in our own power to take care of the Earth. Some steps are hard to make, but then again when you think about it not so much. Going somewhere by bike or by bus instead of taking your car is not difficult when you are aware of how greatful Earth would be if everyone would act like this. Like you said, being aware is the first step.
Then I think there are also some changes that are present in the nature since forever. There were warm and ice periods before the man even started polluting the Earth.

www.theozonehole.com/nasaandnoaa.htmHere is that article I was talking about earlier about the ozone layer. I read it in my local paper but this is the same article that I found posted online at a different source. It's an interesting article.
