anyone else see this? i was expecting to hate it but i LOVE LOVE LOVED it. i read the book dozens of times when i was a kid, and it was so close to the book it was ridiculous. all the song lyrics, almost all the plot twists (a few details different, plus it was updated for present day...didnt like that too much). johnny depp was amazing, he nailed every line. saw it twice just to hear him talk and look at all the amazing images. anyone hate it? anyone else love it? if you havent seen it, don't expect it to be like willy wonka and the chocolate factory. instead, read roald dahl's book OE

If you liked CATCF, and haven't read the Raul Dahl book by the same title, you should check that out to. Sure, it's a children's book, but what truly great book's aren't. Plus I have a young son and I'm used to things like that.

was still good tho. i prefer the original As a hardcore and loyal Depp fan myself ( I own the first 2 Seasons of 21 Jump Street and will have the 3rd soon if that tells you anything) I must say that I applaude him for taking on such a role that has had so much love and such a following, it took balls to take this on. But come on, love it or hate it, isn't this why we love Mr. Depp in the first place. He's a risk taker. And yes, sometimes we may question his motives, but without a risk there is nothing to gain. And I must say, he has been in a small handful of bad movies, but in my opinion has yet to give a bad performance. Charlie is no exception to this. I don't think that his portrayal was better than Gene Wilder's, but it's definitley nothing to be ignored either. I can watch it over and over and think it's great and funny each time. He made the role his own which in my book, makes for a successful performance. that's all. Peace!

I didn't think I would like it ,but it turned out to be pretty cool.I like that it was dark, but it was too funny not to laugh at some of the scenes. The thing I respect most about Johnny Depp is that he is a very humble actor. He chooses roles that wouldn't neccessarely be based on just his goog looks. He picks characters that are very complex and unusual to him. He loves learning about what most would not understand. It gives Johnny Depp more depth and more heart. This, to me is what a true artist is made of in today's world.

haha yea, i liked it too, even though i tried not to. (cuz im an arrogant asshole lol!) so yeah...err i wasn't saying depp did a bad job, i think hes brilliant too (i would like to buy 21 jump street but am poor at this moment haha) ....just didnt really think the film was as good as the original film im terms of being this nice little kids story.(cuz thats what i was expecting, a nice little bedtime story) and it turned out to be all dark and stuff. it was funny too though, i did like it. i wont deny that. its too much effort to lie and say i dont like it. ksadjhaesf\vbmdsgbvj,dmgvd my eye is twitching!!!! It's sad isn't it?? The things we do that our children remember forever! Now its sort of a joke to her, she gets it. But I just rewatched the movie the other day, I have to say that yes its a good movie--but Johnny is strange looking when he remembers back to his past. How he makes that one face I don't know, but he looks like hes tripping out.

Yeah the new one was kinda gay the only thing I liked about it was that they made the oompa loompas smaller, I really like the first one alot more by miles!

I liked the original better. I thought Johnny Depp seemed a bit fake. Maybe that's just cause i'm old.

I have the strangest perspective on things.... I was watching the movie, and actually appreciating how they kept the filming costs to a minimum (I was guessing) because the cast wasn't very big.... less actors to pay. All of those million oompa-lumpas, etc were the same damn guy that kept multplying, ha! It was basicly mr. Depp, and a couple of kids that probably don't deman $20 million per film yet. I could be wrong, maybe all of those grapghics and camera tricks call for a pretty penny, but with the work I have seen from this forum alone, maybe it's not as much of a far stretch! But, the movie was ok... not my fav, but my kids like it! I love Johhny Depp because he's a secret rock star, it's where his original passion lies.

My dad thought he was being funny, but we thought he was serious when he said if any one of us kids lied, he'd flush us down the toilet! He also said that he'd unscrew our belly-buttons and our butt-cheeks would fall off! (we listened for sure!) ...and once I didn't.... he ACTUALLY crossed my birthday off the calander RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME! A big fat "X" on January 15th. I was devestated! I don't remember what I did to get in trouble #idea# But, I got over it. My dad had his own sense of humor I guess... I still love him #mixed-smiley-002#
