Ok, so....me and two friends of mine (Nate and Brianne) have been playing in a little acoustic trio thing for the past few months and we're playing our first show (granted - 5 song open mic) tomorrow night and we need a name. We've tossed around ideas for a few weeks now keeping in mind that we're not trying to take ourselves too seriously. some of the ones that come to mind that we've laughed at.
-Real Rookie -Screen to Machine (this is our buddies expression for screening a phone call) -Beat Street -Rodeo Yoda -DarthVader Mousepad -Woodtick Snorkel
Nate even suggested we lift my forum handle and call ourselves peanutsinapile. Brianne, however, hasn't really been too thrilled with any of these names, despite how funny they may be to Nate and I. So this morning I got to work and I guess she had been thinking about it, bc there was an email from Bri - mostly meant as a joke - saying that she had done some research on some band names that "some of the greats" considered using before deciding on their eventual names. What followed was this list...(keep in mind she is well aware of my Melon obsession and is subjected to it everyday.)
1) Gristie 2) Frog 3) Mud Bird 4) The Naked Pilgrims (my personal fav) 5) Brown Cow And Last but not Least… 6) Head Train
I laughed when i read it - but then thought...wait a minute, The Naked Pilgrims...that could work! Nate liked it - and loved the back story that was a considered Melon name. We decided to drop the The and just be Naked Prilgrims. But a few minutes a go I googled it and a website for a guy who calls his "band" The Naked Pilgrims came up. He has one cd available through cd baby that came out in 2005. So, a dilema. At this point, we still want to use the name and have rationalized that if we shorten to just Naked Pilgrim then it would be at least a little different from the other guy. But what to the Melons think? You guys like Naked Pilgrim? Any other suggestions? I should have been asking you guys all along!

I ran into a similar situation years ago with a band I was in called 'Medium Cool' (we figured that since we weren't super awesome, but we also weren't complete and total losers that 'medium cool' fit best) We played some shows but we never released anything. We eventually discovered that there was a jazz band out there with the same name that had released a CD or 2. We figured that since we weren't releasing any CDs and since we had no official representation that there was no harm in keeping the name (though I guess the thought would of had to be revisited if we were to have ever signed with any sort of official reperesentation) I guess it depends on where you hope to see your acoustic trio ultimately going and how commited you are to the name 'Naked Pilgrams' and keeping it

Awww yeah Naked Pilgrims would be a sweet name! I hope you can keep it.
I like Peanutsinapile too, I'd TOTALLY go out of my way to see a band with that name ;D
Good luck on finding a name and on your show, let us know how it went!

Medium Cool...thats great. I guess at this point I'm not all that concerned. If this ever goes anywhere we could look at the name more seriously I guess. The gig is tonight, and we will be listed on the bill for at least this show as 'Naked Pilgrim'. It's not even that i love that name as much as I love that there is an obscure Melon connection with it!

Just to update - We had a great time last night. They gave us 5 songs, we played 4 obscure covers and 1 original tune and they were all really well recieved actually. we were surprised! Especially since we got there at 8 only to find out that it wasn't starting till 10 so we had nothing to do for awhile except drink #cheers# We signed up as Naked Pilgrim but we can't use that name anymore. We spent some time today listening to the other "the Naked Pilgrims" on Myspace and - not to slam the guy - but I wouldn't want to be confused with him in anyway. #thumbdown# You can go listen to the songs if you want to. I don't recommend it. So, we're back to the drawing board but leaning toward using peanutsinapile. But would you believe that myspace.com/peanutsinapile is already taken too! and it's not me!!! bastard!! the profile is set to private but i can only assume he is a melon so thats cool. I actually sent him a message to make sure he's not a band, but i doubt it would be private if it was. i guess we would use myspace.com/peanutsinapilemusic or peanutsinapileband or something. anyway, thats the latest!

Sweeeeet, peanutsinapile rocks! You guys got any plans to play Vigilstock maybe? That'd be cool ;D I would LOVE to. I'm hoping that in the next few months i can convince them to do it with me. In the meantime, we have another little show this thursday night and this time we plan on playing Change during the set. I can't wait! Bri soungs so good on it! And she's listened to me play it and sing it, and has heard my boots so she sings it the 'Changed' way without even realizing it! It's great. We just put a Myspace yesterday. Check it out! We'll be putting more stuff up on there in the comming days. Right now the recordings on there are really rough, so go easy. www.myspace.com/peanutsinapilemusic

Everytime my grandpa used to see somebody drunk, he'd say. "He's been sippin' on the loudmouth soup." So there's you're band name, "Loudmouth Soup"

I personally love short band names that are precise and to the point.
Notable famous ones have been:
Free Cream Heart Dio etc....you get the picture.
Why don't you try to find something short that matches whatever your band is about? Either way, good luck!

Or make your band name a whole sentence using all of the above suggestions. Dio has a free creamy heart.
