Okay, so some of you know of my "history" with Blind Melon. It was a really special time in my life - the first band that I ever really got to know, the first band that I ever travelled around to see (like a Deadhead), the first band that I ever hung out with. I've had a few experiences like this since then but no band has ever come close to meaning as much to me on a personal level as Blind Melon did ... that is, until I heard The Damnwells for the first time.
Not really in the same vibe as Blind Melon ... more in the alt.country meets Goo Goo Dolls vein (does that sound bad? It reads bad to me but it's pretty accurate). Because I know their manager (Wes Kidd, ex-Triple Fast Action singer), I got to know The Damnwells on a personal level. They've played in Columbus, Ohio (where I live) 16 times (!!!!!!!) since 2002. The bass player's parents live about 20 minutes from me so when he comes to town to visit, we go out to lunch.
Seriously, the nicest bunch of guys I've ever met (besides Blind Melon, of course).

They've toured with everybody from The Twilight Singers to Blue October to The Fray to Augustana to Rhett Miller to Cheap Trick to Rooney (the list can go on and on). At the end of October they are playing 3 shows with The Dixie Chicks in Canada. AWESOME. It's such a huge opportunity for them and the chance to win a bunch of new fans.
So ... give The Damnwells a listen. Like I said, you'll hear nothing in common musically with Blind Melon but just know that these guys are my "Blind Melon of the 2000's".
