I love this song and was curious to know who besides Blind Melon did a cover. I gave a few a listen and I have to say with no disrespect to John Lennon whom I love that Blind Melon did it best. Shannon sang it with such passion that you know that the song meant a lot to him. I'm listening to it right now and I've got goosebumps, makes me so sad and makes me miss them...........

Eventhough John Lennon performed that great song very well, I enjoy Blind Melon's version even more. I love how Shannon sang it so emotionally..It made a great impression on me.
Marilyn Manson covered it well too.

yeah that song is awesome, the one of the rarities and bsides has the best quality but it's kinda short. my fav is the one from the colorado show (i think it's from that show), the quality isn't great but you just have to turn it up really loud and it sounds just as good.
i've never heard the manson one, i'd like to though

Yes I agree. The Lennon version was great but Shannon just captures the right vibe of the song perfectly.

With ALL my respect for John Lennon, I prefer BM version too...as well as Candy Says cover to the Velvet Underground original. Shannon just gives such a great feel to both of them and sings it with such passion! I'm not saying Lennon and Reed don't, I'd just say that I feel closer to Shannon's one.

Blind Melons version is by far the best. Shannon sings his heart out in that song.I can`t listen to it enough.Very powerful.

haha i think shannon was just able to put the feeling into songs like that....its abit enchanting.
i remember saying to my friend once when i wrote a song on guitar
"i'd like to be able to sing but i cant, if shannon hoon we're still alive i'd give the song to him to sing because i know however he chooses to do it would be best.....but then i'd be jealous that he would sing it better than me"
