The Gothic Theater
I went to the Gothic Theater last night to see Candlebox. The show was downright amazing! ! ! Kevin Martin can really belt it. His voice hasn't lost anything over the years. They played everything that I wanted to hear, and they started off the show with my favorite Candlebox song "Arrow".
Now I have to tell you how I stopped a girl from seriously injuring herself. I was on one of the catwalk balconies taking these pictures, and this girl squeezes her way up to the railing, and she turns to me and tells me how drunk she is. I kept watching the show, and this girl was majorly annoying through much of the set. Eventually she starts hanging over the railing to scream for the band, and she starts to go over the railing!!! I quickly grabbed her and pulled her up. She then mentions that she's on medication. I tell her that since she is on meds and totally drunk that maybe she should stay the hell away from the railing. I didn't even get a fn thank-you. Oh well. I guess I saved the crowd from having to witness some drunk fool falling down to the floor. I'm not trying to make myself out to be anything here - I am sharing this because it was one of the strangest things that I have ever experienced at a show. And don't get me wrong, I've been drunk at plenty of shows, but this girl was just completely hammered to the point where I doubt she remembers anything about the show. What a shame. . .
As a sidenote, let me give a quick overview of the two openers:
Whitestarr was alright. The lead guitarist had a huge-ass afro, and he wore rainbow suspenders - Robin Williams-style. The bassist had a huge tophat, and they had some dude on the side of the stage that was just there to dance. I guess the drummer for Whitestarr is Roy Orbison's son. I didn't dig their music too much, but they were entertaining at least.
Driveblind was really great. You can tell these guys love to play music because it shows. Who feels it, knows it. . . Their singer has great vocals, and the keyboardist is like a mad scientist. I reccomend checking out this band! #thumb#
All in all, it was a great evening of rockin' music. #rock# I am so glad that Candlebox got back together for this tour. Definitely check them out if you get a chance. Here's some links:
