hey tferg, i have long been a big fan of shannon's old hat. there's some discussion about it in older threads on the forum. some of us have come to the concensus that it is a trilby (which is sort of like a fedora, but with a taller crown and a narrower brim). you might want to check out Village Hats online. most of what you'll find will have the front brim flipped down... but that's easily fixed. right now i have a hat that's pretty close to the "ideal"... but the brim's a bit too wide. i think you'll want one with an inch-and-a-half brim. i bet you're glad you read this. i'm as mad as a hatter. p.s. how great is it that Nico got up on stage with the newly reformed B.M.?!!

Not really all that close, but still cool. Be yourself.

i think his hat was more of that of the casual homburg type. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homburg_(hat). his hat had structure and an upturned brim-just my opinion-most people will generalize it as a fedora. peter grimm makes nice, contemporary versions currently.
