I was just watching an episode of Veronica Mars when I noticed a sound that was very familiar to me. The beginning of Life Ain't So Shitty (the street noise/cars beeping) was used in the show as background noise. The whole song wasn't playing in the background, just the sound effects. Does this mean that stock sound effects were used in the recording of Life Ain't So Shitty? I always felt that the noises gave it an outside NYC cab ride type feeling. Anyhoon, I recorded the sound clip from VM and put it next to the beginning of LASS. Take a listen and you be the judge: First is Veronica Mars, followed by Life Ain't So Shitty. rapidshare.com/files/56915911/Shitty.mp3.html(The file's only like 200k)

The sounds in the beginning of "shitty", I think are def. genuine. Shannon even say's something about the cars going by to "frequently" and CT says "it is a good idea, it is".

Yup, I'm sure it's just a different occasion with different cars honking. And besides, I've always though Life Ain't So Shitty was recorded with a tape player of some sort or an answering machine, with just Shannon playing near a window? (from where I though the car noise came from?)

Not sure... I've heard the same dub on "Friends"... Also, the high pitched screeching seems to take place during the same spots.

I'm not sure on this one. It could be either one conceivably: geniune street noises from the original recording, or stock audio added into the background. I'm not sure. . .
I have experienced something similar, though. When Ozzy released that album, "No More Tears" the first single and video from that album was "Mr. Tinkertrain". Well at the beginning of the song you hear what seems to be school children playing and laughing on a playground or schoolyard. Then I was watching television and I heard those same little voices in the background of some TV show. I was devastated. Are you telling me that Ozzy used "stock" audio, and that those kids weren't true Ozzy fans who had donated their time and efforts towards the making of the album? It was like the kids who sang in Pink Floyd's "The Wall" needed to come out of retirement to help Ozzy or something . . .
