Heres a new magazine... Thanks to Elva for translating it Switch Magazine (Spanish) Vaquero December 2005
Shannon Hoon (1967 – 1995)
Name: Shannon Hoon
Fatal day: October 21th Place: On the tour bus Death: Overdose
“We knew about all the drugs he consumed, but he never done nothing that could kill his spirit”
After two years on tour with Blind Melon, the problems with Shannon and drugs started to get worst. He was forced by his friends and family to get into a drug rehabilitation clinic, but the soberness just lasted until the recording of Soup (1995), a disc in which he relapsed into drugs, creating scandals like indecent exhibitions, a fight with a police man and the attack of a security guard at the American Music Awards (1994).
Shannon admitted to not remember much about the recording sessions, and at the same time the coexistence with the other members of the band became very difficult.
This time the entry into the rehabilitation was seriously forced, and he got finally sober.
The born of his daughter, Nico Blue (July 11, 1995), helped him to stay out of drugs.
Soup (1995) was a dark album, in which all drugs problems and dilemma about mortality were shown.
Two months after the release of the disc, Blind Melon went on a new tour and with it the addictions came back.
October the 11th Shannon was found dead, by an overdose, on the floor of the tour bus.
He died just three months after the birth of his daughter.
He will be always remembered because of his delicate voice, his southern touch and his poetic lyrics, he left three albums and an unforgettable collaboration with Axl Rose, and that’s why he will be remembered as a brilliant man, although not enough to avoid rock temptations.
