I was driving home from work tonight and its a long drive and I have a LOT of time to think and daydream and stuff.
So anyway tonight I was listening to soup and driving and thinking that it is really a great time for Blind Melon to start up again. We have all this cheesy rock music out these days and about 90% of it seems so generic and booring. There are a few new bands that I really like because they have catchy lyrics or tunes but I have yet to come across something as musically smart and unique as Blind Melon. I mean face it, tons of bands out there are mainstream garbage, and rock is making a HUGE comeback. Just watch the last VMA's and you will see how popular rock is becoming again. I think its perfect timing for Blind Melon to come back now!
Anyway, thats what I was thinking as I was driving home tonight.

I agree, whast worse then the generic and boring "Pop Rock" out there now is when one of your ex-favorite bands conforms to it. I remember alittle band called Incubus, who released a kick ass album called Fungus Amungus, then release another kick ass follow up called Science. Now, who? What Happened? They sound just like the rest of the "Rock Bands" whos albums now consist of 2 "rock" songs, 6 "Rock Lite" songs, and 5 sappy ballots.. Even some of blind melons most "slow" songs always find a way to still "rock" Thank god Pearl Jam is still kicking ass, 311 has ALWAYS been kicking ass, AIC is back, Dinosaur Jr is releasing new material, and now BLIND MELON!. Goodtimes are falling on us aging Gen-Xers

Luckily there's a great local acoustic rock band I love called Lucy Vincent so I can check them out a lot if I'm feeling the need to see a good show. Actually I want to go see them again soon Oh and Twiddle is another cool band in my area although I haven't seen them yet.

I have to say i totally agree with you Gelf... the music that is out at the moment isn't just boring, but it is so boring that it is BOORING!!! (lol) I think selling out has a lot to do with it, with bands like U2, Green Day and now the Chili Peppers... When these bands would come out in the early years to Australia, they would play a bunch of shows at various venues at affordable prices... Now they come out and you are lucky to get two shows, pay under $100 and be closer to the band when you are watching than you are a small island in the pacific (cause of the huge arena's they play in)... MTV overuses their songs on the tele and the radio until they have little meaning and all you want to do as a listener/watcher is to put a sledgehammer through your tele or radio... They then have no status as rock songs, but Top 40 pop songs, which was exactly what they turned No Rain into... (not saying i hate the song, i still love it cause it turned us onto such a great band)...
I have to disagree with you Styckx on Incubus... i think they have kept their statusas a great rock band and sound because they haven't been IN YOUR FACE (haha like how i did that) like these other bands are... we are forced to like these mega bands, and it shows as their music has declined and does not appeal as much as it once did... For example, U2 was the bomb in the '80s and have declined since then... im not saying their new stuff is bad, but they have abused it by having it shoved IN OUR FACE (haha i did it again) through tv and radio and magazines and newspapers and appearing in every bloody NFL game halftime show... how low is that... And their new protest song with Green Day, they call them protest songs!!! Midnight Oil made protest songs, the Spice Girls had better protest songs then these Wake Me Up When September Ends and Saints...
See i was turned onto Incubus by their new sound, from their Morning View and A Crow Left Of The Murder albums, and funny you should talk about those first two albums of theirs cause i was going to buy them today...

Their first album "Fungus Amungus" in the liner notes it says " "a mere 16 years old, and still wanting, very badly, to be Primus, Mr. Bungle, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers all rolled into one."and believe me it sounds like that. ROCK from track 1 to the last track. Science is a far depature from this album but it still rocks straight through. If you buy these, you'll be left saying "What the hell happened"

Every single member of this forum needs to invest in satellite radio. Seriously, you won't have to listen to the crap that top 40 radio plays and you won't have to listen to annoying radio commercials. I'm sorry I plug satellite so much, but I am absolutely in love with it....and they play Blind Melon on satellite (at least they do on SIRIUS) in case anyone was wondering!

Been a XM member for 3 years, have a the XmDirect tuner connected to my XM Ready Sony Xplode head unit, all infinity door speaks and a 10 inch infinity sub. Also have the XM Pioneer Inno portable. Had Sirius for a short for, then dumped it for XM Sirius repeats songs way to many times] P.S. any member in here that doesn't have sat radio, and plans on buying it. Remember one thing FM MODULATION IS BAD. If you get it car installed, get a direct connect to your head unit (If your head unit doesn't have aux in, buy a new headunit that does). I'm sure I don't have to describe the sound quality that is lost over FM Modulation.

The reason Greg and I didn't get XM was because of the commercials. Did they get rid of the commercials on music channels? The new Sirius receiver has a feature where you can program 30 artists into the memory. I no longer have the problem of them repeating the same songs because usually the entire time I'm listening, one of my favorite 30 artists will have a song playing. Satellite radio just plain rocks!

I no longer have the problem of them repeating the same songs because usually the entire time I'm listening, one of my favorite 30 artists will have a song playing. Satellite radio just plain rocks! Heres the deal with XM and commericials, when XM first came about, they needed funding to get the company off the ground, Clear Channel was a big investor early in XMs youth, a agreement XM and Clear Channel made was that give XM money, and XM gives them a few music channels to program. Clear Channels agreement with XM is soon to run out. Anyway, it's only 3 of the music channels, ie: the channels Clear Channel programs. The rest of the music channels are completlely commercial free. It's sucks, but it's only 3. If you only knew how much money it takes to run a sat radio company. Each satellite alone is in the hundreds of millions of dollars to build, let alone costs of putting it into orbit. XM has four satellites in orbit right now, Sirius 3. Then, factor in, Sirius and XM pay about 8% royalities to the music industry for the right to play the artists music. Factor in employees, research and development, cost of the hardware and the production of making it, marketing, blah blah blah blah blah. XM has been around 6 years now, and they haven't turned a single profit yet. XM Doesn't expect to actually start turning a profit until sometime this month or december. Sirius expects to turn a profit sometime in late 2007. XM and Sirius don't make a single dime right now, purely fueled off investors. Just a glimpse this is from XM's 3 quarter results press release The company said it remained on track to become profitable on an operating basis by the fourth quarter of 2006. In the third quarter, its operating loss narrowed to $2 million from an adjusted loss of $70 million in the year-ago period.Probably a lot more then you were expecting, but, I'm a avid sat radio fan so, I watch all this info closely

There are a few good bands out there that the wife and I have been listening to. The Format, Street to Nowhere, Taking back Sunday, and Steriogram just to name a few. But most of the junk out there sounds the same. Here comes Blind Melon, to save the world. Or at least make us happy.

Big ups to Steriogram - a New Zealand 'Kiwi' Band! Never reaaally got into them, but I appreciate the exposure they've been getting in the States.
An good underrated kiwi rock band is SHIHAD (from my home town in Wellington) - they tried to make it BIG but then when the whole 911 thing happened just after things were starting to happen for them, people reacted to the name being similar to Jihad and they were forced to change it - they ended playing under the name of one of their previous hits - PACIFIER.....???don't ask me why??? Anyways, they never made it after that, and now they are known as Shihad again - crazy and very unlucky ride for these boys.

I cant believe you just said that Yak... Shihad are the best... I saw them when they opened for Grinspoon in Sydney last year and i was totally blown away... Even though they were just a backing band, they were easily the best live performance ive seen... The atmosphere was electric and Jon Toogood's voice was amazing... He has such an uncanny resemblence to John Cusack, dont you think... Great band... My sister saw them at Homebake a couple of times too...

eh, there are plenty of good bands out there you guys are just looking on the radio for them, get on the web and surf for better bands, they are out there you just have to look in the right places. For instance check out www.pandora.com recommends music to you based on your personal preference or my personal favorite www.allmusic.com, any time your on a artist's web page it gives a whole list of bands that inspired the band and were inspired by the band not to mention other ones that are very similar. I'm not trying to bitch at anyone I just think if people tried harder than changing the dial on their radio that they might find some better bands that haven't made it big yet. I remember listening to modest mouse before they came out with their new albums even though I love their new ones, I was listening to them for 4 years before anyone I knew actually heard of them.
