The woman Brad is looking at is their publicist, Domenique. So that's who Shannon was talking about on the interview huh? That's cool... but... he was still checking her out. Yeah Brad, get your arse over here!

Going chronologically was getting a bit boring for me I mean, it WAS a LONG time ago that all this happened and truthfully there weren't a ton of "I have to remember this so someday I can tell the story" type situations. So .... here is a post-Blind Melon story ... I went to Cleveland to see Unified Theory play. I hadn't seen Brad or Christopher since months before Shannon died however, thanks to the Internet, I had tracked them down when they were just starting to put UT together (and, at the time, were going back and forth between the names Cessna and Luma). We traded a few emails and they sent me a demo CD of tracks that would eventually be the Unified Theory CD. They asked me to write a short bio for their website so I got to talk to Brad, Christopher, and Chris Shinn over the phone to get some info. Fast forward maybe a year to the show in Cleveland. I missed the opening band (Goudie) and got there just before UT went on. They were playing at this small club called the Grog Shop. I worked my way up front and stood right in front of Brad during their set. I thought for sure he'd look out and recognize me but he didn't. After they were done playing, they walked back to the dressing room (they had to walk through the crowd to get there). I grabbed Brad by the shoulder and was like "Hey, good show." He said "Thanks" and then did a double take. "Chip? Wow, man, I didn't recognize you!" He took me backstage and Christopher did the same thing - didn't recognize me at first (when I *knew* Blind Melon I had long hair that I always wore in a ponytail under a backwards baseball hat; when I became an "adult" - ha ha - I cut all my hair off, got rid of the nose ring, grew a goatee, etc., etc.). Unfortunately the band had to cut out pretty quickly because they had a long drive ahead of them that night. That was probably in 2000/2001. Fast forward to 2004, Austin, Texas where I'm at for the SXSW festival. I'm walking down the street on the first night of the festival and the streets are pretty quiet, not a lot of people out and about (it's a 4 day festival and as you get into the weekend, the streets are blocked off, no cars are allowed to drive on them, because it's a crazy party). I'm by myself and headed to meet some friends from a few bands (Local H, Caviar) when I see Brad and Christopher approaching! I was carrying a newspaper (or magazine or something) and I could tell by the look on their faces that they thought I was trying to hand them a flyer or something. "Wow, I never thought I'd run into you here," I said. Once again, they looked confused and then put 2 and 2 together. We hugged, we chatted, and then we agreed to meet a few nights later at the Sparticle show. I thought that was really, really cool that Brad and Christopher were going to go watch Rogers play. I guess they hadn't seen him play with Sparticle yet so they were looking forward to it. When we met up a few days later at the Sparticle show (took place in a parking lot of some restaurant/bar), Brad, Christopher and I stood out in the crowd and watched Rogers play. Throughout the whole show people were starring at them, like, "OH MY GOD, IT'S THE GUYS FROM BLIND MELON!" and they signed a few autographs. It was awesome. After the show I headed backstage with Brad and Christopher. It felt a little like I was crashing a family reunion because I think they hadn't seen Rogers in a while, so I took off to go see another show. A week later I helped book a Sparticle show in Columbus. Unfortunately the turnout was pretty weak but the people that showed up were definitely there because of Rogers, a few even wearing Blind Melon t-shirts. That's the last time I saw any of the Melon guys. Can't wait to see them again.

Awww man I was supposed to go see Sparticle at that show!!! I ended up missing it b/c they booked a show here in Dallas and since no one else was willing to come along I conformed to attending only one show (which was fucking sweet btw). Cant believe I missed out on seeing Brad and Christopher though GRR

Thanks a lot for the stories Uncle Chip! They were a very interesting read. You were really lucky to be that involved with the band.
