HA! Glen, I know just what these songs need....you need to throw down some vocals on the tracks man! I'm perfectly fine with the tunes, keep kicking ass

Wow, it's great to read how you were writting songs, I often wondered about that, I always felt such a unity in them and that's one of the things that always amazed me about Blind Melon. Thank you. If you knew how many songs we used to throw away you would be shocked. Were they recorded? Will we ever get the chance to hear them?!? I'd LOVE to hear that, especially since we have only three albums of the songs you recorded with Shannon. I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd die for it!!! (ok, not literally)

I think that they busted their asses and toured relentlessly for a LONG time to make a name for themselves as Blind Melon so I don't have a problem with them using that name. We have had a lot discussion about this in other threads...maybe you will find some clarification if you look through the Blind Melon Is A Band section. From what I understand the band is fully aware that some people are going to question it and/or have a problem with it but that is not going to change the fact that they are going to use the name. Many other bands in similar situations (past and present) have gone on with the same name...shit, Axl Rose is touring right now as Guns N' Roses and people seem to be loving it....Alice In Chains is rocking a tour and people are accepting it. I'm obviously not in the band so I don't want to put words into their mouths as to why they chose to do it, all I can say is that I respect their decision, I think they've earned the right to use it, and will support them no matter what they decide to call themselves. I understand that people question it, but it is what it is...hopefully people will get over it if they have a problem with it.

What I really like about the three songs we've heard so far is that they sound nothing like Blind Melon, but they still sound like Blind Melon. I think the good old Blind Melon vibe is definiatly there, even though the songs (with the exception of For My Friends) is pretty far from anything they've ever done in the past.
I understand the thread starter don't feel the same way, but keep in mind that we've only heard three songs. The real Melon vibe to me though is the feeling I get when I listen to an album all the way through (which is something that still happen pretty much every day), and I'm confident that we all will experience that feeling again with the new album #thumb#
And, you know...even if some of us won't get that special Blind Melon feeling from the new album, I'm sure we'll all be able to appreciate and love the music Travis, Brad, Glen, Rogers and Chris create #thumb#

I think it is all candy for my ears. It is amazing to hear how great the songs came out for only a short time together and creating together. Someone said it really simply, the part that is missing, is Shannon, and maybe what he brought to the table, creatively speaking. These are great songs, the music has evolved, and it sounds like there will be so much more to enjoy. I can't wait! Oh, btw, loved the vid Glen It shows how much fun you all have together.

Glen that picture had me rolling Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and my opinion is that all three albums sound different, and the new songs sound different too and there is nothing wrong with that. If you kept putting out the same album or same type of song every time what would there be to look forward too. Change is a good thing. Personally I felt like it was Blind Melon when I listened to the new songs and now I can't stop listening to Blind Melon all together the past few days. Old and new. I also want to say that I respect that not everyone is not going to love or like the new Blind Melon and thats OK too.

At first listen I was not very happy with what I heard, but I researved my judgement until I gave it more of a chance. But once I listened more and read the lyrics my attitude changed. No, it is not Shannon Melon, and i do think the overall sound has changed a bit, but I fully expected that. As people grow and change, so does the music. Thank you Glenn for letting us know who wrote what. I was so pleased to learn that Travis wrote Harmful Belly. If you ask me , it sounds like a very subtle tribute to Shannon, which was very much Shannon's writing style. Fifteen years later and I'm still trying to figure out some of his lyrics. I've had a million theories on sewage fruit and i don't know if any of them are right. That's what makes Melon so great.
This is how I know all is well. A couple of months ago I popped in the Woodstock show. I walked out of the room before it came on and when I walked back in it was just starting and my NEW LIFE 1 year old started dancing in her walker[ she loves dancing to Melon] and I captured it on film. Anyway, when the new songs were released, we both listened and got nothing. But after a few more listens, she was dancing and i was getting chills. All is well!

First, let me say that this "Blind Melon" and the old "Blind Melon" are different entities. Think about it, Glen said It's been 10 years. They've all grown musically, personally, and as a band. Do yourself a HUGE favor and stop comparing the two. Listen to the earlier stuff and love it like you have over the years. Listen to the new stuff like you're listening to a new band. If you don't like it, or you think that "something's missing" then don't listen anymore. As for that pic of Shannon kissing Travis. I understand and respect the point you were trying to make. It's a very loving statement from someone who's obviously a fan. But I must say somethings just "not right" about it.

I have to agree with the shannon kissing travis part of this the most (I agree with everything else btw) I just don't like it, it bothers me, I like it the way it was originally (in my sig pic), it's the real thing.. The new music, well, it's just that, new music, and it just so happens to be made up of almost all the members of one of my favorite bands, and they just happen to use that name again, and deservingly so. It's been 10 years now, why we, and the band all love shannon, it's time to move on, they created the band to make music and be known as Blind Melon, just cause time has passed, and a loving singer is gone, doesn't mean they still don't have the same desire to create wonderful music. It's not like they are pulling a skynard and have like 2 original band members left and touring around calling themselves Blind Melon.. Yes Shannon is gone, and we, the band, and the family will never forget him, but, Blind Melon is about the music, and I really like travis, he fits in well, he's not trying to be shannon, and the band aren't trying to make him such. They are a band, they like to make music and I like to listen to their music. They obviously took some time to stumble across the right singer to feel comfortable again calling themselves Blind Melon. We should be supportive and not so critical about this. We are lucky to have what we have. Sorry for my rambling

I feel a little bit differently about one thing than some others in the forum... I haven't really felt the need to listen to the new music as though it were a new band altogether. I can listen to it, totally thinking of the Blind Melon that I already know and love, and it seems to fit just fine. Everybody's right about what's missing... I miss Shannon's piece of the puzzle terribly. In fact, earlier today I got a bit of For My Friends stuck in my head, playing over and over, and after a little while I was shocked to realize that it was Shannon's voice I heard singing it instead of Travis! I said a quick mental "Sorry, guys" to both Shannon and Travis, of course, but it made me realize more than ever just how much I really do consider the band to be ONE BAND, then and now. It might just be because I want it so badly. I've missed the band so much, and now I'm so amazed to see my wish coming true... Yes, it might be wishful thinking on my part, but I'm glad that I have no trouble reconciling the two eras. Peace.

About the name... If you lost your right arm, would you change your name? (That is the best I can come up with.)

Glen Graham I forgot my password to a board once, and had to change my name I lost the key to my house once had to change the brand of locks I used I lost a credit card once and had to change my account number none of these points make any sense, but, I just thought I'd share this random randomness
